Great review, had no idea this product even existed. It seems to be pretty well executed, and I'm curious to see how successful it'll be. As you mentioned, it's such a niche product. Conceptually, it's sound, but the price is so high that it's a value judgment that can only be made after the customer tries it. It probably makes for a great gift item, though. Can definitely see this bring a gateway drug into specialty coffee, and I can also see coffee snobs being quite happy to have a box of these to try.

I liked that you went to the effort to show how this product could be used in a roadtrip, which is lacking from the other reviews of this I’ve seen. If you’re curious to see a quite different take on Cometeer, Lucia Solis has an interesting take in her podcast (she thinks they’re delicious but remove some of the joy of coffee). Have you tried the instant from Black and White? They have some pretty high-end instant sometimes - freeze-dried single farm Gesha for example - that has definitely changed my approach to short trips…

Yeah, that’s an interesting take, I guess it just depends on individual fulfillment and your intentions/expectations when brewing a cup. I have! It’s solid and certainly a good backpack option (along with the other freeze-dried options I’ve had), buuuuuuut strictly looking at flavor and deliciousness, Cometeer is winning by a lot.

@@rileywestbrook Fascinating! You may have convinced me to try Cometeer! I was pretty impressed with the instant Gesha I had from B&W so would be interested to compare with Cometeer's offerings given they seem to use more entry-level specialty for many of their offerings.

I’m sure the coffee is good, but like mail order meal kits, all of that packaging and delivery emissions is kind of terrible environmentally. Also, all the energy used to keep it frozen during packaging and transportation. Each pack has what 8 cups in it? Even if you order 4 at a time, that’s 32 cups, about the same you can get out of a pound of coffee, but with way more packaging and energy involved than just buying specialty coffee from a local roaster.

Lot of extra process, packaging and emissions for cold chain though :/

Would've been nice to know the EY% of this stuff in the ratio recommend by Cometeer

Would that even be possible given I don’t know their brew recipe? Could get TDS, but how could I get EY%?
