Love your videos!!! I initially went to a certified dealership(to check on error codes that I knew of as a second opinion) and they tried to charge me for vacuum line assembly with breather hose and spark plugs over 2K. I looked at the guy like he was nuts and have replaced already the assembly parts. Spark plug/ignition coils are next. Not willing to pay that much for simple work. I appreciate the great detail that you add to all of these videos. Very easy to follow and you don’t ever seem to miss anything…

Love this! Looks “not too brutal”. I’m not overly a DIY guy for anything other than oil changes. I do have a performance shop (although likely doesn’t work on these often) where I live who quoted doing all the plugs, and the brake fluid flush for $520 CAD ($405 US) To me that seemed really reasonable by the time I buy the extensions and pivots and magnetic socket etc. What do you think? It seemed not too bad for you to do it though? Do you have a specific torque spec for the tightening too? Let me know what you think.

Hey Eddie I have the exact same car as you but a 2018, I am just wondering how to do an O2 sensor replacement on the car?

I think the hardest part would be to figure out which O2 sensors it is. Once you do that, you’ll need a special o2 sensor socket and make some swivel joints to replace it.

just purchased a x5m this week and super happy with my purchase. Wondering what was BMW's recommended interval for changing the plugs? I was considering doing a bootmod tune myself. My vehicles currently at 80,000KMs so roughly the same miles as yours.

Wouldn't it lose torque value by using the universal joints? Is 17lb torque sufficient enough with the extension and the universal joint or should I increase torque for the rear plugs?

@taylorsons43032 жыл бұрын
@@eddiemcars oh ok when you say stage 1 tune what is included in that?
@eddiemcars2 жыл бұрын
@@taylorsons4303 sorry. When I say tune. I’m referencing a power increase by computer reprogramming. Also known as a “chip” There are various stages of power levels depending on the company you choose and required supporting hardware. I choose to keep everything original so what was including was I’m sure was more aggressive ignition timing along with increase in turbo output and of course recalibration of air/fuel ratios. Of course this was all done by the company so , Bootmod3 (pronounced Boot Mode) but I’m just guessing what was tweaked in the computer. Honestly I uploaded it and enjoyed the increase in horsepower. Going to stage 2 or 3 will require high flow cats or catless downpipes. Also when I uploaded the tune my spark plugs had a lot of miles on them already so the demand for power caused my car to misfire thus why I changed the spark plugs when I did. They were due in about another 5,000 miles anyway and would’ve been fine to keep going if I didn’t tune it.

Would you recommend putting anti seize on the threads?
@eddiemcars4 жыл бұрын
I thought about it and have in the past. I read about NGK. They advised against it. This is what I got from their website: NGK spark plugs feature trivalent plating. This silver or chrome-colored finish on the threads is designed to provide corrosion resistance against moisture and chemicals. The coating also acts as a release agent during spark plug removal. NGK spark plugs are installed at the factory dry, without lubrication or anti-seize. Anti-seize can act as a lubricant, altering torque values up to 20 percent, increasing the risk of spark plug thread breakage and/or metal shell stretch. Thread breakage can sometimes involve removing the cylinder head for repair. Metal shell stretch changes the heat rating of the spark plug and can result in serious engine damage caused by pre-ignition. Do not use anti-seize or lubricant on NGK spark plugs. It is completely unnecessary and can be detrimental.

My 2014 BMW X50i with 85Kmi on the N63TU engine failed CA idle smog test due to failed valve stem seals. The issue is covered in a class action lawsuit Isley v. BMWNA. BMW policy is to change the engine out for a refurb and my portion of that work would be $8K. Instead, I elected to pay Brian at Performance Motorwerk in Dublin CA do the work using the superb AGA N63TU tool set. Elring 199-440 seals are the best choice. I may be among the first to be affected by this problem on the N63TU since smog tests are not needed during the first six years of a car’s life. It’s not a question of IF but WHEN this will happen to all N63TU S63TU engines, so be forewarned.
