NOTHING wrong with playing a master work note for note. It feels good, and demonstrates a level of skill. Playing in cover band - cool! Take it further - cool!

There are some blues notes, and I think some from the Aeolian/Dorian modes. This goes for all of his solos: they tend to be mostly pentatonic, but with notes from other scales thrown in for color, and he doesn't stay in one scale. He jumps around a lot.

I have just bought the tuition DVD Pink Floyd by lick library, amazing!!! I also have Queen tuition DVD's by the same providers and they are well worth the money if want to perfect a particular song as they break it down note by note. Anyway check it out if you play guitar.

Yeah but the whole idea is of a rock guitar solo is to just whip it out, not try to play something note for note just like somebody else already did. You might as well start playing classical music and join an orchestra and play it note for note just the way Beethoven wrote it. Gilmour never plays it live the same way twice, he always just plays off the top of his head, the way rock guitar is supposed to be played.
