I like how he collects both old and modern. Usually guys his age only collect old ones. That lets me know he actually has a love for comics.

How would only having older stuff mean he doesn’t like or respect comics? 🤔 that’s what your implying with this statement
@Ghostin93 Жыл бұрын
@@jimmyhayes6017 No, but usually you'll find that people who only collect older comics really don't care about comics but it's strictly an investment. Yes, that was a bit of stereotype but you'll find that there is a little truth to it. And yes I own Daredevil 1, Hulk 181, ASM 129, FF52, etc but I also own a bunch of moderns that will probably never be worth anything but I love the characters and story lol

Wow! I live not far from Edgewater! Good to know there are a few collectors in this area. Need to make some time to head down to Maitland and visit. Back in the day, Intergalactic Comics and Collectibles used to have their actual store in Maitland, Florida (next to the Krystal burgers. Intergalactic is online only now. This was back when "The Station" nightclub / bar was behind there in Fern Park - it "burnt" up twice, someone really wanted that insurance money, lol).

I can’t even imagine what that feels like- I’ve talked to dozens of collectors that said they had asm15, ff1, iron man and so much more and their parents either threw them out or gave them away… 100’s of millions in books at a dump somewhere or lost forever
@mikeb8013 Жыл бұрын
Yup that’s right. My brothers and sister grew up buying comics when the first of spider man , avengers, all of it. And our father threw them all away. He got pissed and was tired of books laying all over their bedroom floors. We would be rich. And we always would throw that in his face lol. Anyway, being the youngest. He ended making sure mine collection were in boxes. All because he eventually realized what a mistake it was throwing those books away.

Glad to see even if I can't get to do that. There are still some collectors like that.

I like his philosophy of protecting old comics by slabbing them, not letting them deteriorate further. I wonder how many well-meaning mums did the same to their boys, giving away or throwing away their comics so the son would "grow up". Doesn't bear thinking about. I'm very impressed by Clay's dad, he comes across as really genuine and you can tell that he loved comics as a child and still loves them.

I don´t see myself as a collector but I coudln't avoid the fact that at some point in my life I bought garbage just because I intended to show off as a specialized collector. The fact is that most people don´t buy supposed collection comics. At the end you just want to get rid of all those things you bought foolishly. On the other hand, for me it is very important the stories, not just the art. If the story isn't good, it's not a good thing. I read every comic I buy and many have been just crap. That's why I stopped buying garbage and believe myself as a collector. I have money debts now and I regret for all the things I bought without taking care of future.
