I went through the visa application process to the USA last year... On the documentation there's a list of countries that they will want to know if you are from. They are; Bangladesh and every country ending with 'stan'. I wonder why? ;-)

Actually, sometimes, a name *can* be misleading. For example, see the allusions to "democracy" in "The Democratic People's Republic of Korea"... or the "Democratic Party" (Like with most other terms, the socialist/communist interpretation of "democracy" is *very* different from actual democracy) The problems in the Islamic Republic of Iran are absolutely Islamic, though.
