Man I've primarily been reading romcom manga for the last month but some of these panels make me want to pick up battle shonen again. Especially that ki blast from space hitting earth, the Saitama hitting that dudes face in, and the Vinland Saga carrying the boat up the mountain(watched the anime recently so I remember that fondly)

Six minutes in and you’re saying exactly what I have said about the issue with COMIC BOOK fights. All text, ZERO ON PANEL feats. It’s a VISUAL MEDIUM. Not a novel. Make it visual. That’s what CINEMA gets right. Understanding it’s visual. Marvel actually does infinitely better at that than DC. Hulk is harder to do because his power set is mainly physically connecting punches. But check out Thor or Dr. Strange runs and it’s crazy seeing what they do. Versus DCs magical based heroes like Dr. Fate, Zatanna, or Wonder Woman (closest comparison to Thor) and the latter’s feats are ALL the Hulk feat you showed. All WW does is punch. All her villains do is punch. Punching and grunting. Even WORSE is that DC don’t even give readers text to explain how impressive the punching is. We know they have superhuman strength but that’s it, no scale. I remember being excited to see WW fight her brother the First Born. I was coming over from being a manga reader primarily. All they did was punch. Didn’t split any mountains. Didn’t shatter any large hills. Just two people punching.

Could you cover out on Yogiri Takatou from Instant Death, how he stacks up against marvel top dogs and in general

Finally, the fights in the comics are extremely boring in my opinion, i really like your video. Something i hate is that weird and stupid jump they do with all the body exposed and the arms just streched instead of protecting the head or something (i called it the "dolphin jump") PD : sorry bad england.

What would be your take on the action in the Immortal Hulk run?

Immortal Hulk is an interesting story. I have been considering making a video on it in general

Nice video, but I disagree. I think clarity of action is done far better in American super hero comics. Manga puts way too much emphasis on speed lines and focus lines, often making it a scribbly mess with a figure stuck in the middle. I often find myself confused on what I’m looking at and how to follow the page flow. It feels like every moment is sold to the max from action to the comedy. As far as scale, well, the biggest action manga of all time (arguably) is Dragonball. Dragonball when we get into “Z” sucks at scaling. The threats were planetary from the start with characters like Vegeta and Frieza attempting to destroy the world. Then characters like Cell and Buu were…attempting to destroy the world. The impact and the weight of the actions had very little variety. A fight from early on felt like a fight from when they were more advanced as characters. Power-scaling in manga and anime as a whole I would argue is kind of broken. Even though Batman and Superman may deliver the same punch and it sells in a similar way, the reader is led to understand that Supes is leagues stronger.

Scale referred more to when Vegeta shoots a blast, you see the blast from a zoomed out image of earth giving you a Scale to how powerful it was.

Hmmm 🤔 if looking for cosmic level scale there are comics like Infinity Gauntlet, Crisis on Infinite Earths, various Superman titles, Dark Phoenix, Galactus versus Fantastic Four, and various Jack Kirby books. Those are the ones I could think of in the moment, without research. I look at comics and manga as two sides of the same coin. We may think something is super specific to one and then find there are examples of it in the other. I personally like how comics “capture the moment” as it allows for narration and inner monologue which is cool. The absence of excessive speed lines allows for environmental and spatial impact as well. Manga does well to capture movement with those same excessive speed lines. So yeah, idk, all depends on what the author is trying to communicate I guess. Good video 👍
