✍ Virus (1999) is one of the most memorable horror blockbusters of the 20th century, although only a few remember that it is the adaptation of a Dark Horse comic book. This Tech-Horror thriller of killer robots on a ship was born on paper in 1992, written by Chuck Pfarrer and drawn by Canadian artist Howard Cobb. It was originally published in four volumes. Pfarrer himself co-wrote the screenplay for the film adaptation, directed by John Bruno in 1999. The first third of the film is fairly faithful to the comic book, but gradually distances itself from it. One of the differences between the comic and the movie is that the ship in the comic is Chinese and in the movie it is Russian. In the comic there are no survivors on board.
The franchise was extended into video games, with a Survival Horror for PS1 titled "Virus: It is Aware". The comic was later re-released as a graphic novel, with the cover changed.
