Zack's Aquaman was a total reinvention of the character, but it was probably necessary because the comicbook version was a non-starter. It was an odd take on Aquaman but it worked about as well as any take on Aquaman could have worked. Mamoa was good in the part. All told, it's fair to say - it worked. The problem with Lobo is that a slim boutique fanbase even know who he is, and ONLY that slim group of fans. It's going to be a major uphill battle for DCU to convince fans they should care about this character most of us had never even heard of. The sheer oddity (if I may use that word) of casting the actor the fanbase knows as Aquaman will probably play against Lobo being taken seriously. This has NOTHING to do with Armin's conspiracy theories about a Snyder Cult. I've never seen any evidence of the Snyder Cult that Armin rants about. Where is it?

I have often thought that there is a similarity between politics and our discussions about these movie franchises. While Trump is certainly a great showman who brings a lot of unique attributes to the table, at the end of the day what his supporters really want is quite simple - we want policies that produce favorable outcomes. That's it. Whether the economy, free speech, immigration, foreign policy or crime, we want policies that make things better. Trump is a vehicle for making things better. When it comes to the movie franchises, fans like me want one thing - great stories. We want writing better than we could do ourselves, not worse than we could do ourselves. We want clever plots, well drawn characters, surprising twists, logic, and suspense. We haven't been getting well written or executed stories in a very long time. Star Wars was ruined beyond repair a long time ago. MCU hasn't had a truly good movie since Infinity War. It's not to say there have been glimmers of quality here and there but not much. For those of us who support Trump, it's all about policy outcome. For those of us who think like me about these movies, we want good stories from Marvel, DC and SW. It's not toxic to say so, and it's certainly not a cult. It's toxic to settle for shit and call it otherwise.
