@@ComicBookInvestments Like the day before you posted this vid I just posted a haul during which I was pointing out how I had underrated the significance of Romita, I was blowing him off as being a "corporate look" for the character, "genric", and only for the reason the brand became popular, yet this other channel had asserted to me earlier how it could make sense, the influence of Detective Stacey and him growing up and out of his old self by his 20's, so the change could make sense in the look and style of Peter Parker as a change from the Ditko nerdy ways that I preferred -yet still, there is too much of a crutch going on w/the iron man spider-suit in the movies and the Tonly Stark influence in the MCU, cuz for me Parker should be about how he had to learn alot of things while he was not part of the in-crowd, hunted by the police and on his own... Any way, I would had referenced tis vid had I just waited to make that vid any way, great work.

These may not get the hits of some of your more regular videos but these are important. THIS is what collectors were attracted as kids whether we knew it or not. The artwork. The covers. And ultimately, the stories that we uncovered behind the flashy exterior that kept us coming back. I understand the editing, time, storytelling and planning are extensive on your end but I’m glad you’ve taken this one. Quality work and solid contributions to the community.

i can't state how much i love mr romita. He's art impacted me since i was a child, re reading old Amazing Spider-Man issues. He had this elegant, yet expressive art work, that pretty much cemented the Spider-Man aesthetic for me. When i think Spider-Man, i think of John Romitas version (and, because i'm from 2002, Mark Bagley's take on the character on Ultimate Spider-Man). He drew so many iconic panels for the character that his impact still rings true to this day (Spider-Man Blue is basically a love letter to him, even down to the aesthetic). i would pick up my pencil and try to match him as a teen, he was the first artist to make me do so. Now the golden trio for Spider-Man to me, are gone. Stan Lee, Ditko and now Romita. Thanks for everything, Mr Romita!

Yes he was a great artist and really defined the spiderman character. He is the artist my dad first started with. So I’ve had many attachments to his art

@@ComicBookInvestments i couldn't agree more! I also find it really nice that you have an attatchment to him through your dad! i've also had tons of attachments to his art! when i was learning english, i used to read comics i was interested in, particularly spidey because he's my favourite character, in english so i'd learn while also doing something i liked. the 70's and 80's spider-man comics are my all time favourites. The writing is so good, the character drama is as thrilling as the actions and the art is practically perfect. Just seeing Romita's images was enough excuse for me to "study" english with Spidey. In the end, it worked (i think), but i can't say it was because i was a studious teen. hell, to this day i still learn through him. I'm trying to become an artist to one day make a graphic novel, and constantly study his poses and compositions to get better at it. i will never, ever be able to pay this man eveything i learned from him. Love him to death! ps: what do you think of his son's art? i was mixed on it at first, but i've grown to like it a bit, i'm a huge fan of the jms run, at least before it crashed and burned towards the end, and i'm a sucker for early 2000's vibes, so i'm kinda biased.

Amazing biography of a legend. I always enjoy your deep dives into the comic world, I feel like I learn so much each time. For example, I had no idea how personable an unassuming he was. Romita and Steranko are easily my favorite Marvel artists, and I really don’t think there’s another one that’s close to them. Thank you again !!! 🎉

Dave excellent tribute to John Romita senior, was glad to meet him a few years ago at fan expo Toronto and he signed my Spider-Man masterworks with the goblin cover #39. Latter I had Stan lee sign it and commented he beat to the book by signing it before me. Loved his work and got to tell him l liked his work a lot on ASM to he fantastic four to the avengers. Hey Dave, good morning this is Bob in Connecticut. I’m on my way to Yankee Stadium that’s what I do every week I don’t do anything else.. anyway Steve Ditko and John Romita were the definitive Spider-Man Artists . Definitely two of the greatest and that you have to put Wally Wood and Al Williamson in the same category. I still have EC science-fiction artwork, one of the best pages of Al Williamson hanging in my kitchen. It’s with the dinosaurs totally amazing compare to the artist nowadays.. I wish I had John Romita original art Spider-Man. I do have a John Romita Junior original art in my kitchen of Harry Osborn, turning into the green goblin, believe it or not.. remember I don’t have much stuff left . I told you some of the high-end comic books I still have.. I also have a page of original tales to astonish Ant-man artwork with Don Heck. I also still have a Ditko original Indiana Jones artwork from the 1980s on my wall.. as always I love your content
