Even though you're essentially just a voice on the internet that I've never met in person, I feel you're honest enough in your videos that I have a read on who you are as a human being, and I feel that person is someone I'd be happy to have a beer with and chat with in person someday. It makes me sad that you have to go through health problems, and I sincerely hope things get better for you. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and the Perch clan, I hope today is great for all of you.

Perch, you’ve been a part of my daily routine since almost the beginning of your channel. With your channel, you are a creator that has touched the lives of thousands of people who will remember your words and passion for comics. I know I will. Merry Christmas to you and your family, Perch. I wish you well and I hope you overcome any health issues.

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah, Perch. This channel remains a gift. The first comic I remember was gifted to me by my cousin (G.I. Joe #19). The first comic I bought was at Tanglewood Stationary Store in Yonkers, NY (G.I. Joe #32), and my first comic shop purchase was Transformers #12 at Dragon's Den (the first location), also in Yonkers, NY. I finally got into superhero comics in 1987 with Amazing Spider-Man Annual #21 (also at Tanglewood Stationary Store). These are indelible memories that won't leave me, and they led me to working in an adjacent business today. Your enthusiasm is infectious.

I've been listening almost daily to your videos for the last 3 to 4 years after coming home from work. I agree with the vast majority of what you present and just want you say you are very much appreciated. There are not many comic book stores left in the San Francisco/San Mateo area including my former LCS which closed during Covid. What I get out of your videos is what I used to get out of chatting with that former LCS owner. Best wishes and health to you and your family.

Even though I didn't chime in much the last couple of years, I've been along for the ride for much of those five years. Sad to hear your health doesn't improve, I wish you all the best and please know that listening to you was an honor on several levels and I will go on listening as long as you do content. And I will continue to love Comics and ready them.

Well done, Perch. You've managed to make me cry. I've only been here for around a year but I wish I'd discovered your channel sooner. I may not always agree with your takes but I've always appreciated your honesty and your integrity. Merry Christmas to you and your family, and Merry Christmas to all you guys in the comments section too. X-Men 210 (the "Go ahead. Mess with us. Make our day" issue) was my first new-off-the-racks X-Men comic and I was all in immediately. The Mutant Massacre is still my favourite Marvel crossover event. As for Mark Waid, maybe he should take some inspiration from Alan Moore. When Moore hated the UK government of the time he wrote V For Vendetta. Great writers channel their energy into creating interesting stories, not tweets.

Well, crap. I wrote a long response, accidentally posted it twice, so I deleted one and now they're both gone. Sorry about that. So if the other one shows up somehow, forgive me for the repetition. Perch, I don't think we have ever met or interacted, that I'm aware of. I didn't know you were a retailer (thank you!) for one thing. But for whatever reason I ended up clicking on your video at 6:30 this morning and ended up watching the whole thing. Your comments about the joy of comics are spot-on. My family was poor when I was a kid, I found a copy of an old Justice League comic at a garage sale and I still remember the thrill of reading it to this day, pretty much every day. It was a crossover issue, I didn't know any of the characters, so it became my mission to find out. I rode my bike every day (we lived on a farm, it was a good distance each way) to see if I could get the next issue. I had no idea how comics worked, I thought the next issue would come in to our local grocery store any day now, you know? Even though the comic was several years old when I got it. So to this day, my favorite book is Justice League. When I became a comics writer as an adult, one of the first calls I ever got that blew my mind was from Mike Carlin, "How would you feel about writing six issues of Justice League? With Jose Garcia Lopez drawing?" I don't know if I will ever in my life, outside of family, have a thrill like that. I could win the lottery and not feel more amazed. I don't understand how anyone ever gets over the feeling, we're making comics. We're writing Tarzan or the Spirit or Batgirl, or we're making something new. We have a brilliant artist devoting months, maybe years, to drawing this story. How do people ever stop feeling wonder about that? I"ll never get it. Even at cons, my favorite thing to do isn't panels or meetings, I don't drink so I don't care about the bar after. The best part is getting to shoot the shit for a minute with readers about comics, just talking about comics. It's the only reason I go, because that's still just endlessly fun. I never felt jealous of writers in other media because OUR medium is the one that spawned Kirby and Ditko and Simonson and Sienkiewicz and Wood and Wrightson and O'Neil and Moore and Doran and Scott and Adams and Perez and a thousand other talents who decided this was their home, this was their world. Anyway, I could talk about this a lot, probably will right up until the apocalypse. Being in comics is a thrill, a wonder, and a responsibility. Thank you for articulating it so well. More importantly, I am so sorry to hear about your health. I can only hope that it works out for the best and you get a full recovery soon. I know this puts life in perspective, and I always think, if you lived a life you love, that's the biggest win there is. It sounds like you have done that and more. Good luck, good health, hope you read great comics for the next 40 years at least. Thanks again.

I can remember buying comics from the Circle K in the 80s. I was one of those kids that bought Marvel's "Star" tv-show comics. I had a Thundercats with a guy demanding Vengence, and Panthro asking "Vengence for what!?" All these years later, I still dont know...

Comics are by far my favourite form of media, I much prefer reading manga than watching the anime adaptation of it. It’s better than reading a novel, it’s better than watching a movie, comics by far it’s is my favourite way to consume a story. You can read it at your own pace, I remember reading the Buddha arc in Gantz and just frantically flipping the pages & the pace of the story was already insanely frantic, it was just an amazing experience, at the end of the arc I was nearly out of breath. Comics are just the best medium, but only when we have a good writer.

Great video. In all walks of life and business, you ll encounter complicated people and others that will light up a room whenever they appear. It is what it is. Happy that there are great professionals that make you smile from ear to ear. Love John Romita Jr art over the years, one of my sins is I don't love Macfarlane's art but others love it to pieces. It s also a great thing that different people love different things. Either way, love comics, and have so many great memories of them over the years. Feel blessed having this hobby, and having been exposed to it, all these years...and counting You also have touched several people over the years, and that's a beautiful thing. Hope your health improves and you get to continue the great content and passion

And this is why I don't follow creators on social media or watch most interviews. Because I couldn't care less about who they are as a person. I don't care who they vote for, I don't care about what movies they like. I don't even care about their own comic book recommendations. What I do care about are entertaining comics. If I think a creator does strong work, I'll check out other things they're doing. But that's as close as I get to "following" them. At the end of the day, the work speaks for itself. Everything else is random noise that has *zero* impact on any aspect of my life.
@InfamyOrDeath-__-7 күн бұрын
Only once in my life have I searched for a creator and that was Tom King, I was reading his Batman run & absolutely hated it, so I searched to see who the writer was & if other people hated it. That’s when I found all the KZbin channels, before that I never spoke to anyone about comics. No one in my life read comics so I was used to not talking about them. And to this day King is the only creator I searched for, I’ve never looked or interacted with any others.

@@InfamyOrDeath-__-Ditto with no one reads comics in my life (a new passion of 2022). Same with sci fi and fantasy novels for decades. Surrounded by a sea of normies even with close loved ones. Only time I look up an author is the wiki for the body of works. If I find a writer I like and want to see if they done something else I might be into.
