@@thejworks07 not gonna lie, I never imagined comics would get their proper respect and visual displays the way they are now, and I’m glad for it…I was the biggest nerd ever: thousands of comics, as far back as the 70s, wizard magazine, all of it…but I’ve skipped a lot of mcu movies cuz the heart isn’t in it. Corney jokes, predictable plots, predictable villains. Like I said, im happy for the revival and expansion of wha inspired me to join the army, but dang im almost 40 lol can I get an actual plot one day😅 edit: not for blade 3 though!?!🤣 I take it all back

I guess this explains why I haven't seen you or any other comic book KZbinrs talk about new Blade comics. It's a shame he should get new comics and good stories. Perhaps they shouldn't just limit him to just hunting vampires and have him deal with supernatural threats like Dr. Strange and Ghost Rider.

I think the same could be said for occult horror comics in general…are not popular the way they currently are in “Marvel”. With the exception of Dr. Strange and Ghost Rider, and even those books have been canceled a couple of times. Marvel has not had a must read horror occult hit.

There's an answer for Blade's Daywalker "chicken of the egg" question. There was a panel interview/discussion with the 90's Spider-Man Animated series writers. When Blade came up, the head writer revealed that it was actually them that ended up making Blade half Vampire first before both the movie and the comic. The movie seems to have followed their interpretation in particular because Whistler, Blade's mentor in the movie, comes from the cartoon and not the comics. I remember watching the conversation about a year ago, so it should still be on KZbin somewhere. I'll link it in an edit if I come across it again.

@@jerfuhrer2581 yes i know Blade is Dhampir. Originaly his only ability was him being immune to vampire bites I believe. After he was bitten by Morbius thats when he gained his other abilities. What im saying is that in the Civil War tie in there is a panal stated the the bite from morbius didn't change him. So what im wondering was his other abilities a result of morbuis biting him or part of him being a halfbreed. I think they retconned it to him being born a Dhampir

Wesley Snipes was perfect for this role, but I think Michael Jai White would've been a better choice over Mahershala Ali. Michael Jai White is real life martial arts practitioner. He is Spawn, Bronze Tiger, Universal Soldier, Blood and Bone, Undisputed 2, Never Back Down, Falcom Rising, Dark Knight. He definitely is the better choice. Also, Blade stories can be much better if the writers think outside the box. Blade doesn't only have to fight vampires. His power set and skillz make him great as street level hero or he can be elevated to a magical status by implementing him into Dr. Strange story arcs where Blade gets involved with voodoo and witchcraft. He can become friends with Brother Voodo and learn how to use it and add to his powerset. Blade can have cool adventures with Spider/Wolverine team ups, Xmen team ups, Dr. Strange or Avengers team ups. Or even associate him with Wakanda and create a story line where he ends up dating Storm or marrying Shuri. I have so many ideas. Blade can be used in any storyline, but the writers need to back away from vampires for a while.

I think the daywalker idea might have started in the Spiderman 90's animated series as he was a dhampir in it instead of daywalker but still used serums to suppress his need for blood. I also believed that is when Whisker was first created.

I remember Blade from reading Marvel comics in the 70's. Blade was one of stranger characters because the comics code was changing. Seeing Blade in the 90's was really awesome, especially with Kris Kristopherson. I think Wesley Snipes is yet to have his best work. I hope Ryan Reynolds can get this going!

Blades first appearance was in 1973?! NICE, I was born in 1973, October. I remember seeing back and random packaged issues when i was little and youd get the scary books batched together, same for the rest. But whenever I saw Tomb of Dracula ads or comics, Blade was always nearby. Every time I saw him thereafter his Look was stylistically up to the times of his appearance. Then the look was solidified by the Wesley Snipes films. That look carried over to the subsequent shortly lived Blade tv series but also in the comics as well.

Let's get Jonathan Hickman to do a 2 or 3 year supernatural comic run. Blade, Midnight Suns, Doctor Strange, Dracula, all that type of stuff. I'm not a huge fan of vampires, but I like Blade. Doesn't have to be Hickman, just someone who can write a compelling, interwoven, multi-year story.

Dont forget that the early 90s saw a HUGE resurgence surrounding vampires in general. The book Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice was written way earlier, but the hype was at its height at that time and the movie adaptation came out in 94. In the geek world Vampire the Masquerade (RPG) was released in 91 and was heavily influenced on the Anne Rice book. The Bram Stokers Dracula movie also released in 92. So yeah, lots of vampire stuff back then. Its not a coincidence that they decided to make Blade movies at that time and that the hype for blade died out with the hype for vampires in general. I hope they flesh him out and make a good movie!

The funny thing is that it wasn’t the comics or the movies that introduced Blade as the Daywalker first. It actually was set up in 2nd season of the FoxKids Spider-Man cartoon in 1996, two years before the movie was released. The character of Whistler, Blade’s mentor was also officially introduced in that show as well.

Blade Vol 4 technically barely exists and everyone references the volumes incorrectly. In 2015 Marvel tried to release a comic BLADE THE HUNTER (Blade Vol 4) with Blade being a Female. The 1st book sold so poorly it got cancelled. There are 6 total covers, only 1 of them is shown on CLZ. So, the newest entry (2023) that everyone on eBay refers to as Volume 4 is actually/technically Volume 5. I'm sure Marvel would like to forget it was even a thought, though I'm sure it's what sparked the idea of Bloodline: The Daughter Of Blade. I have a huge Blade collection and have been down the recent wormhole for the past 6-7 years now. There is what consists of Blades Main Story: Of course, Tomb of Dracula. Blade The Vampire Hunter Vol1 (94-95) "Strange Tales" is part of this Run. Blade The Vampire Hunter Vol2 (99-00) Blade Vol 1 (98-99), Blade Vol 2 (02) MAX, Blade Vol 3 (06-07) "It takes one to Kill one", Blade Vol 4 (OCT'15) The Hunter "Raising the Stakes", Blade Vol 5 (2023). Everything else out there is a mini series or one shot or separate appearances or side runs or separate universes, i.e. Darkhold, Vampire Nation.

Rob… correction: Blade was released in 1998. I know this for a fact because, I saw Blade in the theaters in San Diego, when I was attending C school in North Island for my tenure with the US Navy. In 1999, I was still in Japan, which means I couldn’t have seen the film in theaters in San Diego at that time.

Lots that I didn't know here. But I always had a problem with the art on Blade books after the movies. They always seemed to want some alternative style instead just letting, for example, a Bryan Hitch or Sean Chen or Trevor Hairsine go to work and create the mood.
