Supergirl Wrecks Superman (Supergirl Rebirth: Reign of The Cyborg Supermen)

I'll go out on record and say... I liked the New 52 Supergirl. That disconnect, for her, who had only known Krypton her whole life, and being thrust into a culture, a people she doesn't know or understand, a language that is not her own. The detail of her recognizing Kal speaks Kryptonian with a slight accent, since he's not a native speaker; all fairly realistic and, I think, great! The problem was that she never really grew as a character. She "should" have turned into a more optimistic, happier character (more like classic SG), and instead only got angsty-er and angrier. A real let down, since the T.V. series Supergirl is waaay too quick to about-face from her culture. She never mourns her people. There's no depth in that one. So yeah, I haven't read up on Supergirl:Rebirth since this story arc ended, I'm not digging it.

Yeah, I feel like we are by far in the minority though. I personally don't like focusing on children in comics, especially during schooling years. What do you lose out of the character when you don't put her in a school? Practically nothing. And now you're left with a weird mix of innocent old school supergirl, and the "I don't belong here" supergirl even if she's trying to adapt to living on Earth, which they should have just done a better job with New 52 Supergirl. The more mature and more competent Supergirl of New 52 who can realistically interact with the rest of the DC Universe just straight up beats whatever the hell Rebirth supergirl is in my books. She won't be able to interact with the Justice League, the Lantern Corps, the Bat family, etc because she simply isn't old enough or mature enough to interact in their story lines without making a person go "what the hell is she doing here"? The only practical stories that would make sense for her to have crossovers with now is Superman, and Wonder Woman, because of the whole "how did you adapt to a new world?" shit. Also, a more personal gripe, but I hate Rebirth supergirl's design. Not to diss the old school Supergirl, but I felt that New 52's sleek design was a perfect fit for the character. Also, the new Supergirl T.V. show is kind of ass even despite it's popularity, and I really don't think that they should have taken inspiration from it with this new reboot.

Heck, if handled properly, since she was so new to the world, Supergirl (the book) could've served as an introduction for new readers into the D.C. universe as a whole, as she tries to learn the ropes and interacts with other characters. Overall, just lost opportunities all around, and now we get a dull "good girl" with obvious character motivation, and shallow development. I also don't mean to diss Melissa Benoist, she's a sweetheart, but this isn't the Supergirl I wanted, and it's not the Supergirl we need.

New 52 Supergirl was easily the most realistic portrayal of Supergirl in comics ever. If you crash land on a planet were super powered individuals are mostly hated and shot at on sight, your family and planet just died yesterday for you, your cousin who you were sent to protect is a grown man (and for the most part kind of an asshole) and you don't speak the language of everyone on the planet you currently are on. You will be pretty angry and disconnected. It just made sense and was a good read. She didn't speak a lick of English for a long time and spent a good amount of time almost destroying the Earth for a chance to go home. Her becoming a red lantern felt so natural by time it happened, since her man outlet for grief was punching bad guys!

Yeah, and I don't really see how N52 Supergirl fits in with Rebirth Supergirl. The change is sudden, nonsensical and lacking in a handwave/wizard that fixed Superman, for example. Orlanda's writing has been garbage and the art even worse. It's a shame they didn't develop Kara properly through the N52 and her character was relatively stagnant. Still better than Rebirth tho

That's just people, man. Everyone's different, there's a large portion of people who want too see change, and there's a large portion that want to see a return to tradition, and then there are a thousand other opinions formed by everyone else. I'd like to see a return to form in Marvel, but only to a point. I want Thor to get his hammer back, I want the real Tony Stark back, I want Bruce Banner back, but I also want all these newer heroes to find their own identities and carve out their own places in the MU. From DC, once Doomsday Clock is over, once the Watchmen plotline is over, that's when I want them to start trying new things, once they've finished up this merging of the New 52 with the Pre52 landscape.

Alan M Carlino Jr How should I put this without sounding salty? I disagree. I do like the original comics because I grew up with them, but I also like new comics when they are done right. Do you know why I like DC Rebirth? I like it because the writers take older ideas and characters and revamp them. Literally rebirthing the characters into a modern world. These newer comics can appeal to both the older fans and the newcomers. And some people still don't like DC Rebirth whether they are comics fans or not.

See, this is why I like DC's character building better than Marvel's . DC: Let's build this character slowly and allow people to fall in love with her slowly. We will make people love Supergirl by make them care for her by seeing her grow. Marvel: Hey, let's kill off Ironman and suddenly replace him with a teenage girl. Comic readers are dumb, if we make her the only Ironman, then they have no choice but love her. Yeah, I don't love her. I could have. If we had a line of comics that ran parallel with Ironman. You know, first a comic one-shot called Ironman & Ironheart. Then put her in a few Ironman comics, then you give her a comic of her own. Then, and ONLY THEN, do you start Civil war 2, then kill of Tony. Then people would think, "Hey, what about that Williams girl?" "Yeah, I hope she becomes the new Ironman." A slow build-up, not a sudden change. Sudden changes don't go over well with humans, cuz the brain likes routine. It likes similar. You have to ease people into change, it cannot be instant man. Like shit, look how you had to replace her with the AI of Tony during the Hydra event. CUZ THEY DON'T LIKE HER! Tl;Dr: I like supergirl a lot more than anything all-new, all-different Marvel has made in a while. I like her, cuz I feel like I know her, and it's a good feeling.

The n52 Cyborg Superman was revealed to be Zor-EL waaay back in 2013 during the "Villain's Month" event right before Forever Evil. I guess Rob was still "Marvel Explained" 4 years ago? LoL. "People hated new 52 supergirl" Pretty sure you don't know what people actually hated. She wasn't an angsty teenager she had just found out her planet was gone and her parents and everyone she knew was dead. How stupid are people really? And no not many did understand because not many lost their entire planet. Superman barely understood because he had no memories of krypton because he was a baby and had long since made earth his home. Kara had memories of krypton and that's the difference. For anyone to think that Kara should of been happy and smiling after a few issues is a complete idiot. Kara had to deal with the fact that everything she knew was gone and it made sense. She needed time to adjust and move on and to find her place on an alien planet. Also we know that the cyborg superman in the supergirl comics is zor-el, her father, this was revealed in the new 52. Supergirl in no way lacks in strength compared to her cousin. She is every bit as powerful as him.

Yeah seriously. Kara was content and happy after she left Earth, which was the point, not everyone is like Superman and can make a home on Earth and just be happy. It made her character "real" she didn't just go "Oh well my family and everyone I know are dead, let me just pull myself up by the boot straps!" That's just not realistic! Not even Batman can move past his families death! Why do people expect Kara to be able to get over billions of her peoples deaths when Batman can't get past the death of 2 people!

In the original origin story of Supergirl, she was born after Krypton was destroyed, not before. She was thus younger than her cousin Kal-El. Pre Crisis Supergirl has never been depicted as being more powerful than Superman. Being the last one standing to take on the Anti-Monitor does not mean she was more powerful than Superman, especially since she wasn't in the group that was attacked and thus not knocked unconscious. I generally like your videos Rob, but you often spin things using interpretations that are not based upon evidence.

The characters need their own spotlight in their own albums, but they should use Action Comics to build the Superfamily in my opinion. As it is, Action Comics is just another Superman run. They should use it for Jon/Clark/Kara/Krypto teamups. Maybe add Steel and Lana to the mix.
