Just an update on comic reading life. I went to the central library in L.A. today to check out trades from DC and Marvel in the teen space where I usually find them but the librarian said that they would have them in the Art area because apparently adults tend to check those out more that teens. Proof that most comics are actually material for grown ups contrary to popular belief. Keep up the awesome conversations!

I know Midnighter from the original Warren Ellis "Authority". If you didn't "Authority" back then, now it's not as good. But everything Ultimate and post-Ultimate came from there. Ellis was a major influence in overall comics storytelling around 2000/2001. He blames himself for decompressed storytelling becoming the virus it became.

I'm all in on Darkseid War. Grail, Darkseid's half Amazonian daughter, teaming up with Mobius the Anti-Monitor to take down the big man? Sold. A real, legitimate, viable nemesis for Wonder Woman is long overdue, and her romping through the Justice League was pretty dope. She broke Lantern's ring! Not as excited as I am for Secret Wars to continue, but it's a not-too-distant second.

I see Convergence as their version of Marvel Axis. It was a filler event and just is there as an event in between the time between DC New 52 and DC You. I see DC You as Marvel Now for DC since DC You essentially is a rebranding.

The way I see this, is not as Doom grabbed "what he could", but instead recreated different realities and timelines. And here's why: SPOILERS While not solid proof, you see in Secret Wars 1 that almost everyone dies, even before the impact, characters like Nick Fury, Hawkeye, Beast, and more die. Yet in Ultimate End in Secret Wars, you can see that same Nick Fury alive. There's also the 616 Peter Parker that meets with Gwen and May (though it seems they slightly ignore or don't make a big fuss about having met in Spider-Men) and it's clearly it's 616 Peter, who is also in the Liferaft! What I believe is Doom had access to all these realities, like going around in a Museum full of many art pieces, and after it was all destroyed and he had the white canvas of the void, he recreated them as best as he remembered, or even skip some steps and did it unconsciously, thus saving also menaces like Ultron, Marvel Zombies, etc. Cause really, ultimate end shows either a lot of inconsistencies, or there's like the "recreation" of 616 Peter and the real 616 "peter" cause the raft was unnafected by Dooms genesis.

If Midnighter did everything he did in that first issue as a STRAIGHT man, we'd just write him off as a womanizer, but because he is gay and he does everything he did as a GAY man, people take offense to it. I loved Midnighter #1 not because they made it obvious he was gay, but because they flipped the stereotypical badass playboy action star and made a small adjustment.

i've actually seen these all new, all different marvel pictures, so i can comment on it. yay me. i was thinking the exact same thing about spider-woman. who i thought it was at first was kate bishop in a stature costume. that would have been amazing. and what's with crotch curtain man? what are these things actually called? who thought anyone needs that dude. he's a really obscure character from what i've found out. why would he be on any promo material? also: formidable foursome.

Faust said to get a gay person to write Midnighter, but the person writing Midnighter is openly gay. Also there may have been sex in Midnighter but there are a lot of gay people that are very sexual, just like there are a lot of straight people that are very sexual. Hell Batman has been with dozens and dozens and dozens of different women, Spider-man has been with virtually every woman in the Marvel Universe. Too many times fantasy/sci-fi/comic book stories will say "Hey this character is gay," but you never really see anything regarding their homosexuality. Take Dumbledore for example in Harry Potter. You guys mentioned Alan Scott and then them virtually ignoring it for years. It took several years to see an drawn same sex kiss between Hulkling and Wiccan even though it was established that they were fucking.

i know its a culture difference but with three outweighing one, be more aware of interrupting faust because he's not gonna play tennis with it the way you guys do and i want to hear what he's just about to say. but in the defense of fellow Americans, i know that is so unconscious that if I had majored in Anthropology I could probably do an ethnography on the juxtaposition of conversational habits in the show. and don't be so polite faust, informal is the US norm. Now i'm wondering how and why these differences exist, such as perhaps the UK consciousness of class system putting more of a focus on politeness in order to cloud economic background coupled with a longer tradition from being an older country/culture. i think about weird stuff sometimes and now i kinda wanna know what the deal is with hayfever

Flywheel Shyster its not fausts topic, is a topic of human nature, and faust said it best, just write like you would batwoman but with a penis. Ripley was a great feminist character cause it was originally written as a male character, ie just written as a normal complicated interesting person. 'Course at most colleges in writer's workshop they very much teach the "show don't tell" writing philosophy which in this case, i think would work toward the societal goal where gender identity isn't something that sepatates us and is simply a characteristic of a person. sorry for deconstructing, i have no life
