Kurt Walker, Kit Walker's older brother, would have been the Phantom had he lived up to the Phantom name, but he had an evil streak in him. Instead, Kit, the younger son, was made the Phantom by his father. Ming the Merciless finds the vengeful Kurt and gives him 24 hours worth of super powers as N'Dama, The Weather Demon. N'Dama wreaks weather havoc on the Phantom's Bandar People to flush out his brother and niece, Jedda. Once face-to-face, N'Dama challenges the Phantom to a race for the Jewel of Zandoon. In doing so, he recreates the test their father had used, when they were boys; to determine who would be the next Phantom. This time, however, N'Dama (Kurt) plans to win the race.

Is there a standard way the Phantom talks? I notice the actor here sounds like the Phantom actor in "Popeye and the Man Who Hated Laughter." But neither of them sound like Tom Tyler.

Read this comic when I was 8. However, in the comic, Kurt got the power through a different source - not Ming. And, at the end of the book, he dies.

Fun Fact: In the unaired original pilot it's Flash Gordon who as a daughter Jada with telepathy powers the Phantom as a son called Kit Walker, Zuffy is yellow and his called Fluffy (not Zuffy) and the Ice Robots have bat type faces.

Would have made more sense for the Phantom to have a son given the tradition of passing the mantle from father to son and to give off the impression that he's immortal

The part when Kurt and Kit were young and had to work together to find the jewel reminded me of the video game, "SPHINX And The Cursed Mummy." Same theme and idea.
