Yes, 'the Word was with God' means that God the Son was with God the Father. And 'the Word was God' means that God the Son was the Being that is God.

Down from His glory🎶🎶 Ever-living story My God and Savior came And Jesus was His name Born in a manger To His own a stranger A man of sorrows, tears And agony What condescension Bringing us redemption That in the dead of night Not one faint hope in sight God gracious, tender Laid aside His splendor Stooping to woo, to win To save my soul Oh, how I love Him! How I adore Him! My breath, my sunshine My all in all The great Creator Became my Savior And all God's fullness Dwelleth in Him Without reluctance Flesh and blood His substance He took the form of man Revealed the hidden plan Oh, glorious mystery Sacrifice of Calvary And now I know Thou art The Great I AM Oh, how I love Him! Oh, how I love Him! How I adore Him! My breath, my sunshine My all in all The great Creator Became my Savior And all God's fullness Dwelleth in Him The great Creator Became my Savior And all God's fullness Dwelleth in Him

Face to face is clearly used as an eschatological term. That did not come across well in this teaching. While I agree one could use that phrase another way, the exact phrase has become charged to a particular debate. I only see the exact phrase used twice in the New Testament, 1 Corinthians 13:12 & 3 John 1:14. Where it’s clearly eschatological or unrelated but supportive of the eschatological view. Revelation 22:4, 1 Corinthians 13:12, Exodus 33:11, Deuteronomy 34:10-12, Numbers 12:6-8, & John 1:17-18

I think he made his point. Of course there are many metaphorical sayings.

@ plausible enough, but it is a common issue to frame face to face as something fulfilled in our time
@jeffblaginess8126 күн бұрын
@blank-964 but it was fulfilled when Jesus was alive on earth. And that's kind of what John is talking about in John 1.

“kind of” but if you look at the scripture I included there is clearly an eschatological face to face which is yet to come. Most scholars now agree on the eschatological meaning in the 1 Corinthians 13:12 verse in particular.

@ Also, Jesus ascended. Many of the verses included were written after the ascension. When scripture uses face to face in the old testament it’s quite literally face to face. Consider this was written by the apostle Paul, a man who many think was taken up to the 3rd heaven (2 Corinthians 12:1-4). For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. - 1 Corinthians 13:12 Do you think you could have leaned more from Paul at the time he wrote this or now with the completed canon? Don’t you think he could have explained everything you know and more? What did he lack? what was he failing to teach?
