Coming from someone whose parents ALWAYS overreacted to everything.. even spilled milk, I appreciate how you and Joel react and deal with everything life throws at you. Especially in front of the kids. You could’ve came home and just let this overshadow everything from the last couple of months but you just acknowledged what happened and just dealt with it. Also acknowledging Bostons reaction to seeing the mouse and telling him it’ll be okay healed a part of my inner child.❤Your family is so lucky to have you!

I love that Joel went right to finding the entry point and fixed it. That's the best first step...keeping more from getting in/back in. Next is just clean, clean, clean and cannot sanitize too much. I wish I could fly there to help! ❤ A good barn cat or 2 on your property would help a ton! Unfortunately, in the country like that, mice are inevitable, but now that you're home, they're less likely to come back. They dont like being roommates. Lol

Exterminators always say they are more active at night. If no one is in the home each day they will come back. Our neighbor has had mice problems for years and no one else in the street gets them but he and his partner are always away for months at a time. They come back and then have exterminators for weeks and end up leaving for holidays again. Then it happens again. There was a whole meeting and everyone got checked if they wanted it and turned out it’s only his house because he’s barely home. It’s awful to think about it but it is nature I suppose

Bonnie, After seeing the couch I thought how mice will eat through the bottom of unholstered furrniture when making their nests. Look closely at all unholstered furniture mattresses bedding etc. The shredded paper more than likely was used for nesting purposes. Google the sticky glue boards which can be really helpful to eliminate quickly. I felt disappointed for you coming home to this overwhelming infestation. It'll be a work in progress but your family is famous for working together & beautiful teamwork. You've Got This.. Love The Hoellein's.

....ummm I feel like whoever was checking in on the house, should have noticed earlier. It wasn't a small amount of poop, and it was all over the entire house. If they hired someone to watch the house I would fire them, it would only take one time for them to walk around the house and notice it, so they obviously weren't doing even that. If it was a relative...well that's going to be an awkward convo.
@JustuseYT
@JustuseYT 22 күн бұрын
@@NanaehLucky7kind of just feels like someone brought in parcels and checked everything was secured not looking at the floors or in closets etc. this happens a lot in new builds because of new insulation exterminator will tell you to always keep people at least sleeping in your property as that’s when they are most active. Neighbors go away so much months at a time and have so many issues with them rest of the street is fine.

I am a long time viewer that never comments, but we had the exact same thing happen when we first moved into our house we bought. The house had been sitting vacant for a few months because it was an estate sale and no one ever noticed anything in all our walkthroughs. We had just signed all the paperwork and walked into the house and saw all the mouse poop in every single room, drawer, cabinet, closet, ect. We had the moving truck outside ready to unload and I halted everything until it was inspected by my husband and thoroughly cleaned first. Then I bought 2 cats and a whole lot of traps. It's been fine since. I recommend getting an mouse deterrent ultrasonic sound machine. They make a sound we can't hear but it keeps the mice away because they don't like the sound it makes. We have one in every room now. Praying things start getting better for you all!

I can understand how Boston was so traumatized: I once walked into my laundry room and saw a chipmunk in it! I slammed the door, yelped and ran up to my third story to call my Dad to come over. I’m basically your age, Bonnie, haha.

43 years ago, as a 19 year old, first-time Mom, we lived in a renovated, old English cottage. 🏡 One night I woke up to feed my 6 week old baby, and there were mouse droppings IN his crib! 👶🐀 I knew they hadn't been there 4 hours earlier, so the mouse had definitely 'visited' him whilst he was sleeping. I was HYSTERICAL and it felt like the end of the world had come. 💔 Luckily, it turned out to be just ONE tiny mouse that hubby caught and dispatched to mouse heaven. 😇🐀 It still makes me shudder to think about it.

A major way mice got into our new house is between the walls of a cold storage porch foundation and the house foundation, we foamed the heck out of every crack and hole. They can slide through the tiniest crack. Get some cats!

Bonnie, I've found mice in packages that come through the mail. I wouldn't store unopened boxes in the house unless you check for mice. My mom had a mouse problem at her house recently. It took awhile to get rid of all of them because they multiply so fast. I swept up the po&p, used a mop with disinfectant and then used a steam mop. I really just want to come clean it for you. I feel so bad for you. Sending all my love, Shelli 💕💕💕💕💕

Hey guys, I know this is probably too late but don’t use poison… Because the problem with poison is that it dehydrates them and then they start chewing your waterlines and stuff

Why did I tear up when Boston got so upset? That poor sweet child, before he saw the mouse I could tell by the look on his face he was having a very hard time with the situation of poop everywhere. But you handled it so well by comforting him and letting him know that it is a shock to see one of those little devils scurrying near your feet. I’m so sorry you came home to this, but you guys are so good at making a plan, getting organized and finding a solution to a major problem, being a mouse infestation. All hands on deck and hopefully you will be rid of the critters soon. I know you are so organized, and you can find some type of cleaner or disinfectant you can use on your beautiful couches without staining the fabric. Good luck, and like you said better mouse crap than water damage. Sending hugs.

Oh my word…….I’m so sorry you guys have to deal with this. What a pain. At least you guys are realistic and not freaking out (well, maybe internally, but that’s okay 🥴). I literally could not. I’m broke as heck, but I wouldn’t have the energy or mental capacity to take that head on. And my house is TINY compared to yours. I would lose my mind. Poor Boston, you were so good to let him feel his feelings and just love, reassure, and protect him 🥰

My father always left traps and mothballs everywhere you could imagine when I was a child when we visited Florida in the winter because one year we returned home to the same situation. I was about Cody's age, and when I saw two of them scooting out of my closet, I screamed.

What a disaster. I'm so sorry that happened. 😢 I'm glad your plan does not involve poison because that has a detrimental effect on the birds of prey population. But I do hope your traps get a bunch of mice soon. As a previous commenter said, a barn cat would be helpful too. I hope you can get everything cleaned soon so you can relax and enjoy being home again.

Oof! So frustrating to come back to. We went on a road trip and were gone for two weeks and came back to a SINGLE mouse that just wrecked havoc on our kitchen and other living spaces. Sometimes there is a ton of poop but it is only a few mice so maybe it will be an easy fix. We have a lot of field grass around us and I am pretty sure that you guys do to, so we now make sure our grass is cut pretty short and food is not left around and plant mint and lavender around the base of the house because mice don't like mint/lavender (added bonus the lavender also helps keep spiders away).

25 years ago when we lived in Georgia, we had a couple mice get in our house by climbing up the tubing from the AC unit into our attic. Once inside, they came down inside the walls and chewed through the walls behind the stove and got into the kitchen cabinets. We stuffed steel wool around the tubing outside and set up traps to catch the mice. My kids were all little, 6, 2, and 6 months old, so I was freaking out and just wanted to torch the place 😂 Luckily the traps worked and caught several of them and the steel wool kept them out, and we never had any issues again. But man, I feel for you. I hope everything has calmed down now and you have cleared out the mice.

Bonnie and Joel we had a mouse problem until we planted mint. it works amazing as they HATE the smell of mint.If you are looking to keep them out of your shed, it's a great idea to plant a thick patch of mint as close to the site as possible, as it'll keep those pesky rodents out. If you want a stronger option, try spearmint, as that's supposed to be terrible to mice, so they won't come near your home. i find mint plants to be the best option cause one is not having to deal with Chemicals or worrying if their pet is going to get poisoned.

Rachel Parcell said getting a cat fixed her mice problem. Living where she lives she said that they always had exterminators put out traps to keep them at bay. She took in stray cat and let him outside and he became a mouser. The mouse problem went away. Get a cat! A family I know in Colorado keeps 3 cats outside and they stopped their mouse problem.

You built the house in such a beautiful area, where unfortunately animals also live. A slot under the door, under the garage door, the thickness of a ballpen is enough for a mouse to fit through. If you are at home and leave doors, terraces and garages open, they can get in unseen because they hide pretty quickly. Or they get in via pipes or ventilation shafts. They have eaten up your clothes to build nests with. You should set up cameras, for example to see where they come from.

I feel for you so much right now. Everything that’s shredded is what they use for nests. Not food. We found that out at my home years ago when we had an issue. There was a small way they could get in through the garage and that was it. The mouse came in and had babies while we were gone. You will start to catch them. Our exterminator said snap traps works best with peanut butter. So we were catching them left and right with those and had them gone fast. I’m so sorry you had to come home to this! 😢❤❤

Hi Bonnie, Pro tip use a BLACK LIGHT to clean up every inch of your house. It will help you immensely - I gurantee it! 10ish years ago, my husband and I were unknowingly living with two mice in our college apartment in wooded area - they chewed themselves in and got into a lot of things, but we quickly discovered they liked very soft/warm things - couches, carpet, clothes and they liked sleeping under the fridge, sink cupboards and stove installation. We caught several with mouse traps and candy 🙃
