I’d like to add onto the discussion about “transracial” people ( 24:34 ). In our society, there are gender roles. (Mannerisms, clothing, behaviors, expectations, etc.). They’re constantly changing and evolving throughout time but there are differences between men and women. Transgender people transition into the societal role (gender) they feel comfortable in. The problem with transracial people is that race is separate to your role in society. “Transracial” implies that race dictates your behavior, which is a racist sentiment. It may be true to a certain extent (cultural background can influence behavior) its not to the same extent as gender. If someone were to say they identify as black, they’re implying that black people inherently act differently that other people. THAT is the issue with it, not cultural appropriation.

I think this is the best explanation as to why it feels wrong that I've seen. I was stupidly thinking about it in just aesthetic terms as in "Oh i don't like how my race looks, so I want to change races." Along with the distinction that culture and race are completely different, so you cannot become korean, but you i guess technically could pass as asian. And to imply that you always were ALWAYS culturally different than where you were actually born/raised and have no understanding of their language, customs, religion, etc is insulting to the original culture. But your explanation makes the most sense in the way that you cannot *feel* black, white, asian, etc because if you claim you can, you're racist since those aren't personality/cultural characteristics. I'm sorry if my addition doesn't make much sense, I'm just spitballing at 3am because this whole situation has been irking me all night because I couldn't put my finger on it.

I developed Tourette's around 8 months ago. I randomly started winking and moving my head constantly and couldn't stop. It slowly turned into vocal tics and I got diagnosed with a tic disorder. My neurologist told me they were gonna wait a few months to see if they would go away, and they didn't so I got diagnosed with Tourette's. It is rare but you can develop tics later in life (if you are born with the gene for it.) My tics started at 16 for anyone wondering.
