@@Mypromiselive maybe I'm mistaken, but I didn't take it as ridiculing, the commenter found that cute, no? Maybe romanticising it could actually leas to problems, but as these girls will likely be unaffected by this (as it probably won't reach them), I wouldn't say it could affect their linguistic development
@koalaeucalyptus3 жыл бұрын
@@Mypromiselive wow, you really are extreme. I'm sorry you suffered a lot with a lisp, but nobody here is ridiculing them. Not in the video, not in the comments. You could argue they are being exposed, and with that, I agree. However, it was clear that Shaaba was correcting their pronunciation in a nice way in order to try to help the girls, and that nobody in the comments takes issue with their "lisp. My guess is that you are projecting your own insecurities onto little girls who seemed absolutely delighted to be included in a video, and not insecure or embarrassed at all (of course, the discussion here isn't about whether or not it's appropriate at all to expose them at this age to the internet, regardless of a supposed speech impediment, had they got the proper consent from their parents or not; that's a whole different topic). This doesn't invalidade your experience, as I'm sure you've prpbably suffered a lot to feel so wary of this. I hope you are working on overcoming the trauma other people have caused you. But I don't appreciate your accusing people of "not caring about little girls' future" just because we don't see malice in everyone in the world. Nobody here is judging them for that "lisp" but you.

@Tony Lewis it makes sense that you wouldn’t understand because ur cis, and everything relating to gender feels normal to you. But trust me, when you’re trans, it’s a lot different. Gender dysphoria is when you’re really uncomfy and usually depressed about things that indicate that you’re biologically the other gender. And since gender and biological sex are different, they don’t match up for some people. That’s what makes us transgender
@amelh55912 жыл бұрын
@Tony Lewis If you actually want an explanation, here's one: Imagine you were suddenly swapped overnight into a female body, but everything else about you was the same as it is now. Would you start calling yourself a woman and identifying with femininity, instead of calling yourself a man in a woman's body? It's a bit simplistic, but that's kind of what it feels like being trans. It's possible to feel like a gender because gender and sex aren't the same.

My partner and I were both presenting as the same gender one day at the seaside. We were pointedly holding hands at the time and had got ALOT of stick for it especially that day. We were on the way back to the B & B when, from nowhere, a little kid appeared right in front us. I was on my last nerve and thought, bloody hell what now?! The kid looked at us and then at our intertwined hands, perplexed look on their face. 'Why are you holding hands?' they asked in a very urgent tone. I was *done* so just rolled my eyes but my partner, much more patient than I said 'because we love each other very much'. The kid considered this for one second then said 'Okay, love is very important' then skipped away merrily. It was so validating, I couldn't stop smiling for days. This kid had just, in a matter of seconds, righted all the wrongs of the adults in that shiity little seaside town. Kids are magical. These kids are magical. Heart warming stuff.

I'm so sorry to read that two of you have a parent who isn't understanding. Sometimes it can take a bit of time (news that big can be a shock to the system), sometimes they'll never truly get it. Either way, that's about THEM and THEIR comprehension (or how they were taught and raised), it's not a reflection of you. You are valid, valued, seen, and worthy. Don't let anyone tell you differently 💕
@georgina-a Жыл бұрын
@soulfulfreedomheart2505 "Why is it that adults need validation from kids on their transitioning decisions?" He doesn't. If you watched the video, you would know that his transition started before those kids were even conceived - so he certainly wasn't consulting them on his decision or seeking validation on it. He didn't ask for their approval. Being responsible and explaining things to children, in an age appropriate way, so that they don't find out when they're older (or from someone else) and feel lied to, is not seeking validation from those children - it's respecting them enough to prepare them for the world. Jamie has a platform and, at some point as they get older, one of those girls (or one of their friends) are going to see his videos. Ensuring that isn't a shock and, instead, helping them understand is a beautifully caring thing to do for their mental health and for maintaining honest and open relationships within the family.

I know this won't be for everyone, but a friend of mine who is a trans man explained it to the kids in his family like this (sharing in case it helps someone): "We have two really important parts - a body and a brain. The body does lots of jobs we need it to do, like running, walking, carrying, (the kids chipped in other activities) etc, and the brain is where we think and feel." He then asked the kids if they were a boy or a girl "out here" (pointing to the body - not genitals before anyone gets weird...) & whether they felt like they were a boy or a girl "in here" (pointing to their heads). He then explained that, when he was born, "out here" (body) he was a girl, but "in here" (brain) he was a boy. This is the bit that might lose a few people (personal preference for what works for your family), but one of the kids asked if this was like a friend of hers who had been born with a cleft palate and had to have it operated on. He explained that yes, something had also got a bit confused when he was growing as a baby and so, just like her friend, he took medicine and had an operation to put it right, so that now he was a boy "out here" (body) & "in here" (brain) - the way he was always supposed to be. They understood it immediately, were completely fine with it, and one little one even said "I'm glad you're better now" & gave him a hug. Then they had a normal day. It really isn't difficult if it's explained in a way that works for that child. I know everyone has different outlooks, so this won't work for everyone, but the more people share their experiences and approaches (I'm sharing this with permission), the more help and inspiration there is for people going through the process now 💕

To be fair, children are a product of how they are raised. Lots of parents teach their children that there are only two genders and reject the idea of transgender. So they have it ingrained in them for most of their lives until they’re old enough to think for themselves. And then there are others who teach their kids about the gender spectrum, and about transgender people and all of these topics that were talked about in this video. Kids believe people they trust. They don’t have a full understanding of these things. While they can have some grasp, it’s not the same as Jamie and his fiancé because they are fully developed adults with opinions and feelings. These kids will grow up and decide how they truly feel when they’re older. It’s likely that they will take on the type of understanding that Jamie is teaching them about because they’re being influenced at such a young age. I’m not in ANY way against that, just explaining why kids have a better understanding than adults. The verdict is: they don’t. They are simply trusting and believing who they look up to.

God, they're so cute. 🥺💖 I grew up with lesbian parents and when I was little, my mum was genuinely afraid to tell *me*, her own daughter, because of how others had made her feel over the years. I grew up calling my other mum a variety of titles, "stepmum" "auntie" and just her name. I was told they were friends, although my mum did make it clear that my non-bio mum used to be married to my father (they split up when she came out and my father, later becoming friends with my parents, donated for me. I treated him like a dad and saw him till he passed away). At 10 years old, I was being really badly bullied by a girl who's dad knew about my parents. She would call me lesbian everyday and, as someone who was confused at the time, not knowing why she was saying this stuff is what hurt me the most because I felt like she somehow knew what I was going through in secret, and was using it against me. This bullying got really bad despite multiple complaints to the school, this girl absolutely ruined my life, and my mum couldn't watch me go through the pain of it anymore without letting me know why it was happening. So she told me, and I will never forget that day. We were sat in her room, as we often were, and I was venting about the latest things my bully had done and said to me. By this point, people in school who's parents knew mine had let slip that this bitch was bullying me bc of my parents. I didn't believe them. On this day, my mum said to me, as she often did, "what would you do if it was true, if me and [name] were really together?" I gave my usual response, "I wouldn't care." Now, normally this was followed with "OK but it's not true." but this time, my mum said "We are." And I was like "Oh, OK. Cool. Anyway, [talks abt something else]." and she was surprised that I was so understanding and accepting. I guess she thought I'd be mad at her for some reason/would blame her for my bullying? Which is so silly, it's not her fault that people decide to be assholes to her and her kid. We went downstairs afterwards and she told my non-bio mum that she had told me about them and I said they should get married LOL. I didn't know it was illegal back then. But my mum said she had always wanted a civil partnership but my non-bio mum didn't see the point so they never did. But they were basically a married couple, just not officially lol. They split up when I was 15 and I was so upset bc I have always thought of them as both my parents, whether I knew they were together or not. But now I'm closer with both of them and my mum has a new girlfriend who she adores just as much as she adored my other mum. I'm really happy for her. As for that bitch of a bully, her dad tried to follow me home to idk??? Hate crime my parents I guess????? And so my mum got the police involved LOL. The police tried to take us out of class and get us to like each other, no fucking way that was happening. Also, 2 years later, I found out about bisexuality and spent the next 2 years after that trying to deny it and just pretending I was an "ally" to the LGBT+ community but I couldn't keep it in for long. I came out when I was 14. TL;DR Kids are not bigoted, parents are. Bigotry is a learnt behaviour and you are NOT born LGBT-phobic.

yes exactly you are raised like that both my parents support and i used to ask my mom on a daily baisis a few years ago when i realised im apart of the lgbtq+ community: Me: ''Would you see a difference on me if a married a woman?'' Totally random question, but as bi why would you feel the need to “come out”? I have never really understood this. Should I have at some point come out as heterosexual? To me “coming out” is equal with saying you are seeking approval or acceptance. F others if they don’t accept you, that is their problem. You are what you are and it is no one’s business, just live your life authentically, people will figure it out for themselves what you are and what you aren’t. No biggie.

@@plan4life I'd say it's not approval, but like it makes it clear for the people around you, it might also clear out some non-supporting people which is sad but ... Meh. When people ask "aren't those kids too young to be talking to them about it," I think they believe kids are being told all the detailed graphic things like surgeries, genitals, hormones, and other things like that. Nattie-Bug I used to tell people that 'there are some boys who are boys and girls who are girls, and some boys who are girls and girls who are boys - And I'm a just a girl who's a boy!' back when I was a kid. Usually the other kids got it right away, like 'oh that makes sense, wanna play tag?' haha. I actually mentioned that to my gender identity counselor when I first came out and he said that it was a really great way to explain being trans to kids, because it's simple and shows that you can know your gender without it needing to be defined by your body, but also doesn't attach any extra meaning or stigma to the concept. So he's started using it with his much younger patients and their parents as a way to kinda, open the conversation in an age appropriate way. Also, when Jaimie said 'so I got some medicine to help me make my body more comfortable' and the kids just go '... Clever!' I seriously had to pause the video for a bit because it was so adorable and funny 😂

@BattleBrooks146 жыл бұрын
That's really cool! And that's cool that even adults can also learn ways to explain to kids as well if they aren't sure what could still be too complicated. Not even for being trans or lgbt in general; my cousins don't have the most open minded parents and the boys aren't allowed to watch princess/girly type stuff but they wanted to watch frozen when it came out even though they were boys and when I was babysitting them I just said "boys can like girl things and girls can like boy things" and they were blown away at that. But yeah, keeping it so simple can make anything easy to explain to kids. I loved how Jamie and Shaaba were even shocked for a moment when the girls said anyone can wear make up and dresses! Way too adorable!

Kids are adorable indeed. My oldest younger nephew was about as old as they are when he asked his mom "if the boygirl that took the pictures on my birthday would come to visit again someday" and his younger brother sometimes refers to me as a boy and sometimes as a girl to his parents. And I also once encountered a girl that was curious and asked what I was and after explaining it in the most basic way she shouted a happy "OK!" and ran back to her mom and heard her happily combine the words boy and girl in any way possible for a good while when she walked on with her mom. Children are awesome, they (until a certain age of course) are not bothered with the idea of questions being possibly hurtful or uncomfortable and will just ask out of the most pure sense of curiosity, and it's usually only the first question that pops up that they would really like to see answered and if you do, they resort to whatever they were doing.

when you're younger you're more open to world defining information than when you're a full grown adult. if you grew up either being told explicitly or implicitly that the world is a certain way, or if you had a worldview that you developed since youth that went unchallenged, then this is why many adults struggle with things they don't understand, because they had no access to the information when they were younger.

Why does this make me tear up tho??? Like wow that is too amazing, and tbh how you teach children about LGBTQ+ individuals; gentle approach, allowing questions and letting them process and also showing them it's normal to not understand fully at first seeing how they are 7 - yet they are so smart and capable of seeing life as it is! Doesn't matter what your past life was, the focus is on the present, who you are today as a brother (in law), as a family member, friend. They obviously love Jamie, and that is amazing!

SezeConcouis Yes, it is something to be careful of as the child may not be trans and just thinks they are for now. But children aren’t able to do anything too drastic, such as surgeries. You’re not even allowed to undergo hormone treatment until your later teens, so allowing a child to transition socially (ie: be called the pronouns they prefer to go by and a name they’re more comfortable with) won’t do them any harm or change many things in their lives. Sorry if this is really long and boresome, you may already know this but I feel it’s important to clear it up for anyone who may stumble upon these comments who don’t know this.

You’re ignoring the fact that those kids had no idea what was being said until they described it more, and now they agree with it because they’ve been told it at a very young age. Do you think teaching kids that 2+2=4 is brainwashing? Teaching kids that a full stop/period goes at then end of a sentence is brainwashing? No. Teaching does not equal brainwashing. Also, you say that the children only accepted him because they were too young to understand. If you watched the video, you'll find it proves the contrary. Everyone, kids and adults, and scared and hateful towards things they don't understand. That's pretty much an inherent human trait. But, if you understand a concept, you'll be more inclined to accept it. tl;dr Children are smart, adults can be idiots, maybe watch the video next time.

I used to be a transphobe and homophobe. I always assumed I felt like a girl because everyone called me one, and I felt like I had to feel like a girl. I would call myself a girl, and would get used to it when someone called me she. When I turned 10, I started wanting to use the men’s restroom and started noticing that I never did feel like a girl In my life. I would always be the boy in house games, make my friends call me boy names, and even told them to use he for me. I’ve never felt like a woman in my life. I know who I am now, I am Karl, and I go by he/xem pronouns. Some children say they are a boy or girl because it’s “trendy” and I’m sure they would love to know it’s “trendy” for me to not be able to use the men’s restroom without being scared for my life. No exaggeration there. Some people have mad me think even at the age of 7, about doing let’s just say deadly things. I know now when I pass, I will pass being the best trans man I can be. My father grew up with a trans woman, so he thinks all trans people are ONE way. He especially doesn’t know what it’s like to be born a woman and be called a lady for years knowing that you aren’t one. And if anyone dose anything to you for who you are, or you feel not like the gender you were assigned at birth, feel attraction to other people of the same gender, or people of just not the gender you would be attracted to if you turned out straight, I want you to know it’s going to be okay.
