It's a pretty widely used (at least since before the 2010's) TV trope for 'camp straight'. Many examples in the past, just google something like 'camp straight tv tropes' or similar. And these people do exist, Hal Cruttenden would be a good real life example.

Dreyfus played him very camp, but he was a straight character. I got the impression that Goody was very naïve as well. However Dreyfus himself is admittedly gay.
