Judy didn't take criticism well, and when the geniuses at CBS informed her that her Schlatter shows were bad (except for Jerry Van Dyke, they were very good!), she fell apart with insecurity. It was only after she knew she was canceled, which set her free to do what she wanted, that her shows improved and so did her ratings, but it was too late. There'll be plenty of blame to go around in the upcoming discussion!

We've already filmed it and we didn't go down that route too much.

i don’t agree that Judy didn’t take criticism well. i think when it was extremely personal and not constructive, then like many people, she didn’t respond well. she succeeded at a place like mgm where i don’t think she would have survived 15 years without being able to take criticism

@@RandyWilsonESQ The CBS suits told her she came across as nervous and unhappy, and to stop touching her guests, including women. It's an understatement to say Judy was sensitive. This kind of barrage of naysaying was too much for her, particularly since only recently, not long after Carnegie Hall, she was riding high with the public and the critics. She said later she didn't realize her shows weren't good, but that the CBS execs "know more about television than I do."
