Initially ours flights to Japan actually got cancelled because of the sudden policy changes (which was a little scary and frustrating) but all in all, GREAT NEWS! This bodes so well for Japan preparing to open up fully for casual tourism again~ And thank goodness it's SIGNIFICANTLY easier to go back to the US as well! If Japan opens fully, do you think you'll be on the first flight here??

As somebody already familiar with and have traveled to Japan more than once, I won't be going back until these mandatory tours end. It feels as if Japanese politicians or ones making decisions think the only people who can spread COVID-19 are foreigners, and that pisses me off. I'm sure plenty of people in Japan who need tourism to return to normal are irritated too

I don't think it's humane either. That said, Japan is a island. If local transmission are relatively low, it is more likely for new variants to come from the outside rather than arising from within.

I booked a trip for February 2021, then moved it to February 2022, and now it's scheduled for October 2022. If that one gets cancelled, I probably won't be able to go because the price to rebook has more than doubled thanks to gasoline prices and increased interest in travel. Hopefully 4 more months is enough time for Japan to get back to normal.

@@baseddandere end of 2019 this company Tour Radar (I have the app on my phone) always has deals and one of them was a 14 day trip for I think $2450? Includes the hotels (most are traditional Japanese style and look beautiful), some meals, travel (like the bullet trains) but not the airfare to get to and from or to get to the meeting spot so you'll have to plan that. We decided to stay an extra 2 weeks to explore on our own since I have a friend in Hamamatsu and we wanted to visit places that weren't on the tour. And then I've been saving about $250-300 a month since I booked it for spending money. When Japan finally opens the borders for regular tourists I’ll probably wait a few months just to be safe… Last year Japan suddenly suspended most visas and who knows if they do something like that again if covid cases start going up when they get more visitors😅 They suspended the visas last December so suddenly that some passengers had already started their journey and were told on their transfer airport that their visa had been suspended (I work for a certain Japanese airline), I felt so sorry for those people🥲

I highly recommend it, however you don't HAVE to. If you only have ONE big suitcase, I don't think it would be a problem. BUT a lot of the trains get quite crowded and you may end up having to stand with your suitcase in between cars because suitcases cannot be left unattended and seats are always prioritized by people so you can't have your suitcase take up seating space on a crowded train.

(b) there are 2 flights to Tokyo from Pearson: one direct (an afternoon one) and one via Vancouver (earlier morning). Is the direct the best idea these days or is the mrng flight? I just need to save a little more and of course talk to my work to see if it is possible to be off for so long. However, it’s not always good to having so much time off for any jobs in Japan because they expect you to work so much with little time off & if you do want time off for so long, they have this thing that makes you feel like you have to quit if you went so much time off. Of course not all jobs but quite a lot. It’s annoying but luckily some jobs are okay with it.

This is unfortunately true- it's not that common anymore but if you go to rural areas, there are some restaurants that refuse service to non-Japanese patrons. Honestly unacceptable, but the reason behind this is because those places don't have anyone that can speak English (or anything other than Japanese) and cannot accommodate foreign patrons properly, which potentially leads to problems like not being able to understand / communicate food allergies.

No need to apologize, senpai! Anyone of us who had to travel during these times are all begrudgingly accepting of mercurial government COVID policies. Checking regulations each day for any momentous changes is recommended practice these days.

It's gonna be busy at first, crowed, everyone trying to get to Japan. We left Yokota AB 3 weeks ago because of military orders. Yes, we are back in the war zone called America, what with all the shootings and stuff, catalytic converters being stolen, high prices everywhere, housing crisis. We already miss Japan, much safer there than in the states. But, needs of the Air Force applies and so, back to the states. Hoping Thailand opens soon, Wife has family there, so we'll have a reason to fly back to Japan and get a long layover, ha ha! Then eventually to Bangkok

Japan just recently had their elections, and it doesn't look like they'll be opening Japan to independent tourists anytime soon. The government is still promoting the 'package tour's' with authorized travel agencies. From all the vlogs I've been watching about Japan reopening, they all say the same. Since they stated Japan has reopened its borders, they have not had any tourists arrive in the droves they're expecting. On top of that, they're advising not to visit during the summer as it is very hot. Here in the Southeast U.S., we get those temps frequently, so it won't be an issue for some. From what I can see, Japan's tourist industry will get hit hard again.

May I share an Old Testament Verse with you from Daniel 7:14 "And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a Kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should SERVE Him; his dominion is an Everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom shall not pass away, and His Kingdom that which shall not be destroyed." God the Father loves you so much that He sent Holy Sinless Jesus (His Holy Son) to earth to be born of a virgin. Then, to grow up and die on a cross for our sins. He was in the tomb for 3 days, then Father God raised Holy and Sinless Jesus Christ (Y'shua) to Life! He appeared to people and went back to Heaven. We must receive Sinless Jesus sincerely to be God's child(John 1:12).After we get saved by grace through faith in Christ, if we truly love the Lord Jesus Christ, then we will obey Jesus(John 14:15). Mark 1:15 "And saying, the time is fulfilled, & the kingdom of God is at hand: Repent ye, and believe the gospel." Jesus said in John 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments. "There's a real hell. It says in Revelation 21:8 "But for the cowardly, & unbelieving, and abominable, & murderers, & immoral persons sorcerers & idolaters & all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire & brimstone..." Please sincerely receive Holy Jesus and put your true faith and trust in Him today and please repent. Will you have a Real encounter with Holy Lord Jesus (Y'shua is His Hebrew Name) and stay in a Genuine relationship with Him daily please?

will go back when the mask insanity is optional (like in almost all the other countries of the world) so I can breathe like a human being when I'm like hiking the mountains of Japan for example :)

I feel you- it's kind of a nightmare especially during the hot humid summer here. However, masking is quite optional already in Japan, it's just that the vast majority of people here choose to continue wearing masks, so I feel like not wearing masks will be an extremely gradual change here and it'll be hard to pin point when there's an obvious "switch"
