My main problem with GV3s story is the fact it does nothing to connect GV2's secret ending. I would say if they have Xiao being the reason GV being turned into a primal dragon using that bit of the Muse he has it would be more interesting that way. Even if that turned out to be explained in GV3s secret ending instead I think I would be satisfied.

That's a cool idea! I also like the way the secret ending explained it, I hope Gunvolt 4 follows up on that. Not holding my breath though.

I 100% agree with your vibe here - If this game was simply just titled Gunvolt Chronicles: Battle Priestess Kirin, I think a lot of people would genuinely call it the best in the series, or at least up there with the best. But, it carries the burdens of being a numbered sequel, a numbered sequel that makes the same mistake that Mega Man X did by sidelining its protagonist...so it will always get some derision as a result. But, taken as it is - it is a REALLY damn good action platformer. Mechanically fantastic. Nice, well balanced review here.

As a very passionate Gunvolt fan, I feel this video told me exactly what I needed to hear a very long time ago. I always had a sour taste for the true ending in this game, especially the EXTENDED version they added later with the steam release. This video kinda gave me another POV on it, and I don't dislike it as much as I did before. I have always argued that people misjudged GV3 for not being a GV2 instead of judging it on what IT REALLY WAS, and this video speaks volume for that. I can surely understand people getting upset as well, as I myself did, but in the end I always knew that "the muse storyline was over" and they couldn't follow it any further without feeling forced. With iX1 even doing some extra cleaning regarding this plotline. Overall that's really a great video. GV3 has been my second favorite in the franchise ever since it released, I honestly think it does A LOT much better than the rest of the settings. The world building, characterization and giving other characters time to shine without the need of outside material are just some of these things. What I really dislike in this game tho, is how much is locked behind the Image Pulse system, and I mean like, basic system features. Stuff like muting Lumen's songs are passive Image Pulses, for some reason. I wish you had covered the secret bosses, as they give some pretty interesting insights towards the story.
@FlareFoot5711 ай бұрын
With regards to the kudos system, the more kudos you generate, the higher the kudos lock penalty becomes. On Normal and Demanding difficulties, you have a lot of forgiveness since you could equip both Mythyl passives to reduce the penalty and the Zonda passives to drastically increase kudos. On Merciless, you don’t have access to passives, so keeping those points requires perfection like the other games. And just like the previous games, getting hit late in the run means restarting the run (ie. getting hit during a boss and being down 700+). These things are considered and factored in when deciding what constitutes an S++ ranking. This system and ranking effectively are the same as the earlier games (aside from GV2 with its super lenient scoring). Having a penalty doesn’t hurt as much as seeing your score plummet to zero, and they may have wanted to not scare people off from score chasing. IMO of course

Sumeragi, the mega corporation that committed multiple inhuman atrocites on humans and adepts alike. The one that ruined countless lives in the name of peace. Hell, Gunvolt and the Muse are basically their products. And Gunvolt gave himself to THEM?? I mean the game makes it like the Primal Dragon incident is somehow GV's fault, even Kirin says stuff like "even if he did a badthing, he still " from time to time. He didn't ask for the septima Sumeragi gave it to him as a experiment!! 😭😭

To be frank I was very open to how Gv3 was taking and handling its story. I felt super sad not having Quinn or anyone from GV2 back but I have a sneaky suspicion with how the story ended and the ATEMS extra story that theyre hinting at having a sorta insane sequel with GV having changed timelines and probably following more of Kirin's example things might turn out differently, still meeting people he met but things being so much better and in the end while Kirin never sees him again we'll get iX, Kirin games as a passing off since Gv3 imo ended off like that and a Gv4 to just tie up some plot stuff and have us see Joule (whether ghost or not), Mytyl, Quinn, Xiao, Copen, and Nori.

@AcroxShadow Жыл бұрын
The Arc Chain, while fun, is very overcentralizing, making many other aspects of gameplay largely irrelevant, and leads to the game being quite repetitive, even moreso when all 3 characters have it. Most Image Pulses feel pretty worthless beyond the ones that just heal you, and the random drop system combined with the ludicrous upgrade costs make them even worse. The story is mostly fine, and the characters are very fun, but it feels like they skipped a game or two, leading to much disappointment and confusion with the lack of followup to Gunvolt 2. Very odd.
@capstalker5539 Жыл бұрын
That's why I don't like Arc Chain, because it makes the rest of the gameplay useless. Even if you choose to disable it to try others, almost all bosses have some moves that cannot be avoided by normal means, the designers are forcing you to use Arc Chain.

I think INTI should now make the GV2.5 instead of GV4, and to solve all the suspense of GV2 to save those angry fans. Perhaps these suspense can also be explained in GV4, but it will be an ASG without GV, and it is difficult to explain why Copen and Xiao have spent so long to do what they want to do.

Honestly this video is good for giving a more positive outlook for gv3. But I still think in the end there’s nothing that can justify them basically just ignoring all of gv2 endings and shafting gv to the side. Gunvolt 3 is a very fun game and probably the best in the series in terms of gameplay and artstyle but any fans that feel connected to GV’s story are left a bit betrayed and there’s nothing we can really do at this point.

That was a great video! I was hooked the entire time. I agree a lot with your takes on the gameplay. I do think its the best in the series and has the best level layouts and gimmicks. The game also just feels like inti put a lot of effort into it and I have to commend them for that. Kirin absolutely slays, both in gameplay and in character. Speaking of, the characterization in this game is great, GV showing his guilt that he has mustered up and all of that culminating into the final battle is done really well. And while the story fails to pick up after gv2 and the xiao plotline, its an ok story on its own. The main disappointment is how it ruined gv2s perfect conclusion to the series. Some of my favorite parts of the story were 2 of the 3 boss updates added to the game. I noticed they werent in the video so I will assume you have not done them yet and I wont spoil it. If you have done them youll know exactly what I mean. If gv4 ever happens, which unlike before, isnt guaranteed, I would like to see the final part of the story, a conclusion on all fronts, the last gunvolt game (at least mainline). Something like blaster master zero 3 if that is even possible, with xiao and a final sendoff with copen (two who I still believe are alive). I find it unlikely inti doesnt have something planned for these 2 going off of how much copen is loved and the plot points of gv2 still being remembered. Gv3 already does hint at quite a bit of this which I recommend just looking or asking in the gunvolt cafe discord. After all that said, I love the gunvolt series a lot, maybe a bit too much. Going through all thr ups and downs of the franchise, all I have left to reflect on is, damn, Shiron really was best girl.
@DeltaOtaku Жыл бұрын
I've played the Nova boss fight, I was going to talk about it but felt I already made my case about GV's morality when talking about Jota and Viper. Also, I like your idea of Gunvolt 4 being the big send off game for all these characters from Gunvolt 2. It could serve as a passing of the torch to a Battle Priestess Kirin sub-series of games, kinda like going from Classic Mega Man, to X, to Zero. By the way, thank you for sticking with this retrospective for as long as you were, I always liked how in-depth your comments were throughout these videos. I think that's a very underrated aspect of KZbin as a whole. Shiron is a great female character for sure, but I think Layla takes the top spot because she has some of the best dialogue I've ever heard, I honestly teared up during some of her speeches. Truly powerful.

The gameplay and image pulse mechanics are literally the ONLY thing about this game that I like. The characters all suck. All the dragon saviors and Zed's adepts are so god damn cliche that you barely need to rememder their names! Like, watch me describe each and every last one of then in three words or less! The good guys have the failed ladies man, the musclehead, the workaholic, and the gamer femboy, lead by the generic battle priestess instead of GUNVOLT, Who these games are MEANT TO BE ABOUT! As for the bad guys, they have the Southerner, the sadist assassin, the tomboy, and a WHORE, all of which are lead by generic harem protagonist over there! And that's not even to mention the mute shy girl with another Muse septima! Because that septima CLEARLY WASN'T SPECIAL OR UNIQUE, right!? And that's it! Literally the only character I couldn't describe in three words or less is the unoriginal carbon body of Joule&Lumen! And speaking of copying Joule, I fucking DESPISE how her absence is handled, or to be more precise, how it ISN'T! They literally just made a clone of Lumen! She isn't Joule anymore, so all narrative importance of the anthem mechanic is lost! Joule gave Gunvolt power because SHE LOVED HIM, Copy Lumen just does it because it's her JOB! It's like they only made a Lumen copy so that they didn't have to drop the anthem or kudos singing mechanics, which we would frankly be better off WITHOUT! Because THAT would've made the loss of Joule more poignant! HEAVEN FORBID! And since they shoved GV into the passenger seat, it doesn't even really have the right to be named the way it is! They should've just made another Gunvolt chronicles line! When you make a game than has a number in it's title like this, it's expected that it will follow up on the events that the number before it left behind! Calling this game Azure striker gunvolt 3 is about as close to false advertising that it could be without truly BEING false advertising! And don't even PRETEND that there was nothing to do at the end of the second game, because there was PLENTY of potential to go off of ASG2! Mytyl's amnesia, as she fights to reclaim who she was and who to be greatful to. Gunvolts mourning and feeble attempts at finding new purpose after the girl that he loved and cared for died a second time, at rest once and for all! Copen running away from home because he can't handle the fact that his sister is one of the adepts that he swore to hunt to extinction! And you're telling me NONE OF THAT sounded interesting to you, Inti!? Fuck, Copen isn't even in this GAME! He was mentioned in one line of dialog and that was it! WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM!? He could've done ANYTHING in the time between 2 and 3 and we hear NOTHING ABOUT HIM!? What sense does THAT make!? I don't think this is a bad game or that it shouldn't exist, but whoever decided that it should be part of the main line of gunvolt games, needs to be shot in both knees and set on FIRE! I would be perfectly fine with this game if only they called it "Gunvolt chronicles: shadow priestess" but they DIDN'T, and it makes me VIOLENTLY FURIOUS!

Really liked your from what I could gather from your previous Reviews of gunvolt games and other videos about gunvolt is GV3 is like if inti creates made zero 2 as we know it then they announce Zero 3 but the Zero 3 we got instead is exactly what ZX was which would still be a pretty good game but would throw a lot of people and be like "WTF" understandably so. Zero 3(and 4)were more than successful with that mission of being the climaxes to the point that every came together with the previous Zero games but the entire franchise up to that point came full circle with those 2 games tbh. So inti fans expected something similar with GV3 as being this big resolution but we got something different instead we all have to wait see what they can cook with this future gunvolt games personally.

I still feel on and off with how good Gv3 is but honestly pretty good video, even though I had a few things I disagreed with it was interesting to see some points about GV as someone who doesn't really understand 90% of the stuff that Gv does /lh was a genuinely fun watch that cracked me up a few times Though a genuine question I feel obligated to ask about you calling Shiron a she from what I understand in the English version he's a he who's transcoded and in the JP they keep Shiron ambiguous mostly, and especially bc of the zed moment in epilogue atems where zed misgenders Shiron I genuinely couldn't tell if the referring to Shiron as a girl thing was serious and I dont want to make any bad assumptions since I do enjoy watching the videos on this channel. /G /nm Joke or not, kinda left a bad taste in my mouth despite the rest of the video being overall very good.
@DeltaOtaku Жыл бұрын
Shiron being mistaken as a girl was a running gag in the game so that's why I was doing it. I wasn't aware that he was kept ambiguous in the Japanese version, that's an odd change. I can't imagine it was because the translation/localization team had a problem with it considering Zonda was openly non-binary in one of the Gunvolt 1 translations. Maybe the Shiron thing was due to a misinterpretation of the Japanese script.

I'm going to take a different approach here. I have enjoyed every Gunvolt/iX game, but I've thought the story was grating. After GV1, GV2, and iX1, I was ready to hang up my controller. The demo for GV3 convinced me to pick this up again. I thought Kirin was a much better protagonist than GV and Copen combined, and liked that the story was basically starting over. I DO find it odd that they keep adding in timeskips and alternate dimensions. iX1, iX2, and GV3 have all used this to distance themselves from GV1 & GV2. It makes the development seem unplanned. But of all of the stories they've tried, Kirin's has been my favorite by a longshot.
