Idea for next time: Take a Scrabble game and put one tile of every letter in a bag except Q, X and Y. Each player takes 5 tiles out of the bag, and is only allowed to play cards that start with the mentioned letter, basic lands excluded.

As a person who plays a fair amount of Competitive EDH, the most interesting games happen when there are 2 fast combo deck mixed with a slower combo deck with one or more "staxy" decks. Mashing together 4 slow decks or 4 fast decks won't lead to any great games worth writing home about. so the variance is key here. Our subreddit, r/CompetitiveEDH is hosting it's Fifth "cEDH Open" Tournament(signup and info on the front page), and I personally would really be interested in seeing you play the same decks as in the final table, with a short breakdown how your games differed even with the same 400 cards. Last time it was brawl between Ruric Thar, Sidisi Brood Tyrant, Karador and Jeleva, and it was definitely worth seeing. Ruric Thar was a big upset, battling its way to the final four, and we had to re-evaluate our weaknesses after that. Sorry for any possible typos I might have missed, English doesn't come natural to me.

Heads up: Necrotic Ooze does not inherit the "Bury it when it's power is 7 or greater" text from Phyrexian Devourer. It only gains 'activated' abilities of creatures so you don't have to do all that responding to trigger nonsense. :) In any case, great game! When Parnell showed Survival and Ooze combo at the beginning i was like, "Ho boy. If noone has graveyard hate, i sure know how this one is ending." PSA: never let Phyrexian Devourer sit in the gy!

adam traas Well, I wouldn't necessarily say you should trust them - there were other mistakes that weren't caught - but playing with a different deck each week I understand and don't get mad like some people seem to. I'm glad you guys did this to demonstrate 'competitive EDH', but you summed it up appropriately with lamentations that it wasn't fun for most players. Jeremy also put a finger on the most important affect of this play style when he pointed out that banter and conversation were drastically reduced. That is the primary reason I watch you guys, so I hope this 'experiment' is now over.
@TheAlexanderkl
@TheAlexanderkl 7 жыл бұрын
Justin had a win on T3. Bayou + Sol Ring play survival. One colorless floating. Tap scorned villager for G, titania for GGG (Jeremy's elves count too!), and OGTomb for B. Use 4 green to Cycle mind slicer to triskelion, triskelion to phyrexian devourer, devourer to necrotic ooze, ooze to whatever you want (preferably dryad arbor to save CMC), Use the Black and colorless you have left to dance of the dead ooze. Attempt to win. If you have 120 CMC left in your deck, GG. if not, you kill 2 people and leave the last guy low.

When you said it would be competitive commander, I didn't realize how similar it would be to what I experience at FNMs. I guess it finally put it into perspective how competitive my decks usually are. I have to deal with Mana Drains, an Armageddon, Medomai with Time Walk effects, Rest in Peace / Helm of Obedience, etc. Thanks for the videos. Jeremy, I love playing Elfball, and I've tried just about each strategy you can come up with. How did you like playing Selvala? I've heard she's decent, and I'm thinking of turning my Karametra into GW Selvala at first, then trying out mono-G. Playing GB Rhys the Exiled right now, although it should probably be Jarad.

Just loved this episode, and I hope you do more of competitive EDH for us, please! But guys watchout for Sthephen when he's manipulating artifacts! He commited a mistake that no one noticed hahahah! He drew a card as he played his artifact land when Vealken Archmage was on the field, but the Archmage's abbility only triggers when you cast an artifact spell. Artifact lands aren't spells.

An interesting idea you should try doing sometime is everyone building a deck based around relentless rats. The card allows a deck to have any number of them in it and it gets +1/+1 for each other card named relentless rats on the field so you would be buffing each other as you play more. You each could build different decks based on the idea and just have a set number of relentless rats required in each deck. It would be interesting to see how different your decks our based on who is was building it with a set amount of the cards being the same.

Hey guys. Always love the content, but can't say I loved this one. Some people are big cEDH fans, and that's fair, but I'm hoping this is more sparse than a common thing. It just feels wrong in a format designed to be casual and personal; at least to me. You guys certainly made it as fun as possible, but hoping we get back to some more casual play next week. I agree Jaden, the more competitive decks are really interesting. To the people claiming nothing really happened, or it would go too quickly I say this. If someone combo's out turn 3, have them explain the combo then everyone shuffles up and tries again. If the game goes long and there is a lot of quiet thinking at the table, maybe in post have the guys pause the video and give a commentary as to the lines they are considering at the time?

I think jeremy could have won on the third turn. Play Phyrexian Soulgorger draw a card, untap forrest, add 8 mana with selvala, play green suns for 4 searching Temur Sabertooth and bounce the soulgorger and replay it over and over and draw his deck.

Yeah i was so happy to see Jeremy untap on t3 with Selvala not dying . He had a lot of lines of play. He could have played Groundbreaker and drawn a card. Float 6. Play Soulgorger, draw a card. Crop rotation for cradle or Nykthos. Float 6 again. And then depending on what he had drawn tutored with green sun for Quirion Ranger or Great Oak Guardian and keep going. But instead play elf and go ;( Sadly Jeremy's list doesn't play Regal Force to really go deep.

Jon really needs to learn about loyalty. Tickiing up 1 when it is a +2 ability. And taking away 2 when a 3/3 attacks him, leving him at 2. Which causes daretti to survive rather than die when stephen attacks. Mistakes happens, I realize that. But there are so many beginner mistakes that sway the game considerably and that takes away a lot of the enjoyment from watching it :S

Man Stephen missing that Mycosynth Lattice play each turn completely crushed my spirits. He had the win multiple times and just didn't use it.

30:05 - Despite how much he wants to, Stephen cannot cast lands, and therefore does not draw off of Vedalken Archmage.

Need to do a week with tribal decks, so far I think they've only done dragon tribal, back in Dragons of Tarkir.

The next time they do something like this, I'd really enjoy it if they did a banned commander video using one of the five banned commanders. It would be a harder video to do, but it would be similar to the way this one worked.

I think this was cool to see, maybe once a season or once every two seasons would be a good number. For me the problem with competitive EDH is that most decks have lots of tutors and are trying to be as consistent as possible which is sort of against the spirit of the format imo. Seeing a deck played once is fine because you dont feel that redundancy
