She was a part of this comittee at the time and after that wave wizards of the coast took over the comittee, the hole comittee received a lot of hate INCLUDING death threats, considering that this was a decision that was made for the well being of the format AND that the best intentions were in mind, in no way the response for that was acceptable, so every chance that I have I try to support them, either Olivia or even the spike feeders (Jim), no one should receive that kind of hate, for a decision they made with the best intentions, we love you Commander at Home!

Recently, the members disbanded and ceded their power to WOTC. Olivia was a member of the RC.

I love that his deck is sleeved in bright red, because Moxfield highlights all banned cards with a red border. Before Lutri was spoiled, but shortly after Golos' ban, I bought a majority of counterfeit Magic cards and made a deck similar to this. I didn't include every banned card, though. Only the strong ones while keeping the deck the same way I liked it before; full of my favorite dragons and Eldrazi.

@@moedark4390 No, play vs cast has literally no meaning except whether or not you are allowed to play lands as well. Cast is literally just the newer version of play minus the ability to play lands. The important text is "this turn". When a card specifies that you are allowed to cast something this turn, it 100% of the time means that you may cast it at any point after the resolution of the triggering ability, but that you have to follow timing restrictions. Something like an etali trigger on the other hand says "You may cast any number of spells from among the nonland cards exiled this way without paying their mana costs." The lack of reference to "this turn" here means that you cast them immediately after the ability resolution, and ignore timing restrictions on playing them.

Eg, Aminatou's Augury exiles the top 8 and gives you permission to, specifically, cast up to one non-land of each type until end of turn. The following is a Gatherer ruling on Aminatou's Augury: "You must follow the normal timing permissions and restrictions of each spell you cast. (2018-07-13)"

For further explanation: Unless something gives you permission to cast a card from anywhere other than your hand you aren't allowed to. That permission will always come with a duration if the thing granting it is the resolution of a spell or ability (static abilities, such as Evelyn the Covetous, work similarly to the "until x condition", for what it's worth). If something just says "you may cast" (or "you may play", which for the purposes of spells is equivalent per 601.1a) without giving a duration, you cast it immediately as part of resolution. The duration is "right now or not at all" (compare with Suspend). This ignores timing restrictions based on card type (Viz, sorceries et al) as the spell is giving you permission to cast it there and then (if it didn't, you wouldn't be able to cast anything - it's not like you can cast instants during the resolution of other spells). If, however, something says "you may cast it until (condition)" (usually the end of the turn) then timing restrictions still apply. This is because you are only being given permission to cast the spell from somewhere unusual, not cast it at an unusual time.

For example, if you exile a sorcery card, you can cast it only during your main phase when the stack is empty. The Ben Brode episodes are the most fun, can't wait for Ben to appear on an episode with The Professor.

The amount of rules wrong in this episode was wayyyy more than I've seen in previous episodes. 1. You can't die to trade secrets. The caster's draw is up to 4 and they can always choose 0. 2. Dark Deal would have required everyone but Ben to just junk their entire hands because leovold was in play. 3. Olivia could not have attacked Ben the turn he died because urabrask was in play. I get that its fairly casual but the last two were heavily game impacting.

Ben Brode needs to be a recurring cast member, every episode he's in is solid gold. ...also, obligatory, at 57:20, Golos does NOT let you break timing rules. It let's you cast the cards "this turn", which means you still have to follow the restrictions on when they could normally be cast.

My god, this episode was incredible. Emotional sincerity, hilarity, ANTE!, exploration of both magic and commanders past…..THIS is what makes magic the amazing game it is. This is why it’s so much more than a game, for yall, for me, for so many others. This video is singlehandedly the greatest tempter and strongest deterrent of me getting into the game. I like card games, been only a distant observer of magic, because the sheer size of it is daunting. But wowza... what is even happening here?!?!

I would say get a prebuilt deck for your first one! The large card pool is daunting but if you just start with a single deck as your card pool knowledge and let your knowledge of it grow naturally through exposure it becomes less and le intimidating as you go!

@@coledehmer Oh, absolutely! I've been getting some second-hand experience through my brother in law, who is deep in the game, he actually made me a commander deck for an earlier Christmas! (Krenko! Goblins! Pew pew pew!) What scares me most from committing is the price of keeping up with the times. I'll just sloooowly dip my toes into the waters for now. But thank you for the advice and kind words!

​@@TheMindlessCreator The good news is that it's Commander, which means keeping up with the times isn't *particularly* important lmao Also like, you can build some real nasty decks on tight budgets - there's a pretty well known Pauper EDH deck (only uncommons allowed in command zone, and all cards in the main deck can only be commons) for Abdel Adrian from the Baldur's Gate set that's *really* strong, and Hapatra from Amonkhet is another commander who can be built shockingly strong; the first version of my wife's Hapatra deck was between 20€ and 30€ in value and the first game she played it, it won on turn 3. Goblins are a great deck for starters for sure though - both from a gameplay *and* price standpoint. Budget goblin decks can still perform very well, and investing in the slightly more expensive gobs just makes the deck even better. That being said, Commander is also generally a very proxy-friendly format, so unless your local store has weird rules about proxies in commander, you can totally just write an expensive card's name on a token or basic land and call it a day

If you are literally new to Magic, I would highly recommend starting with either Arena or some casual 1v1 with friends using products like a starter kit or Jumpstart. Commander is amazing, but it is definitely not the best way to learn Magic from scratch 😅
