interesting gaming/racing bio jack...at age 68 and never having played video games, sold my touring bike but still have a need for speed, adventure and something to do, got a rig set up and ready to try to figure out all the techno and race craft end of it. channels like yours, dave cam and laurence dusoswa are partially to 'blame', very cool, much appreciated thx. this is going to be the beginning of my next big adventure...but with almost no risk of road rash, 'almost'. cheers 🍌

Always interesting to hear how people got in to sim racing Jack. I was a late starter. During covid when F1 was shut down I saw some of the F1 drivers doing sim racing and thought I'd like to try it myself. Bought a PS4 and F1 2019 and a G29 which was soon replaced by the Fanatec CSL ELite F1 bundle. That was just before my 64th Birthday! One of the guys said I should try iRacing and everything snowballed from there. 😂 Now using a CSL DD and Sprint pedals on a GTOmega Prime rig with a 49" ultrawide monitor. I'm sure if the Mrs knew how much I have actually spent I'd be sleeping in the car. I'm 68 now and still sim racing. I may not be the fastest guy out there but I like to think I'm a good clean racer. 🍌

I built my first cockpit from an old sleigh bed after my wife bought me a Thrustmaster wheel pedal combo. I still have it all set up just in retirement. It served me well and got me hooked. Now I’ve got a little bit of a problem and need help, I’ve really over spend on this addiction. Send help soon.

A story that seems so familiar to us in the community. Thanks for sharing! Gran Turismo (1) made me interested in cars. F1 Racing Championship made me actually interested in the craft of racing. Gran Turismo II made me really like the collection aspect. Then Gran Turismo III got me deep into motorsport. It was Project Cars that made me buy a wheel and suddenly... I saw a whole new world! The booklet that came with F1 Racing Championship made all the sense in the world. And I dove into simracing for good. Taming the addiction is the hardest. :D

I'm old. I started simracing with Geoff Crammonds Formula One Grand Prix on my Amiga 500. Using a joystick from the Atari 2600 console :-).

Great video jack! Its been a journey for me as well. Started getting into Sim racing in 2020 when I got a logitech G293 wheel on my ps4 at the time. Later in 2020 a friend introduced me to Iracing and I remember having issues setting up wheel. 6 or so months later I tried it again and got it working, I was so crap. Around 2023 my Irating started climbing up to 1000 and in the last whlle its climbed up to 1700 Irating :)

You just made me feel bloody old!!! I started simracing in 1987, microprose grand prix 1 was my game, no wheels on those days, just the keyboard. I never used a console, maybe I used an Atari but can't remember much about it. I feel very lucky because I witnessed the beginnings of simracing and flight simulators(another of my passions). 🍌hell yeah man, gran turismo was my start as well, didn't get my first wheel until about a year ago and I'm an addict. Now i have full rig, DD wheel. I agree, research and probably spend more on your first wheel, i start with G923 and two months later got a DD wheel...could have saved myself some money. fortunately i gave my "old" wheel to my dad and now he's sim racing as well at 77yrs old. Most of us wont be able to afford to race for real, tires alone make a weekend very expensive but this is the next best thing. Great story Jack, thanks! Keep it up man.

Was cool to hear about how you got into it sim racing. Would love to see the one about the content creation too. I've been wanting to do the content creation thing for years, but I've never committed properly to it, and when I do, do something... it's not quite where or how I'd like it so I usually get discouraged and shy away from it again. Also, are you at all interested to get back into DayZ content or possibly Arma Reforger content? I recently picked up Reforger and I'm loving it. DayZ has been a favourite that I keep coming back to time and time again ever since the Arma 2 mod and enjoy watching a bunch of guys play that. Enjoying the vids mate, keep em coming!

Similar story. Now I’m 57, have a SimLab P1-X Pro with a PC with a 4080 Super and triple 32” curved screens and a Fanatec DD+ setup, and a SimLab P1-X Pro with a Fanatec DD Pro setup for the PSVR2. I’m a happy dawg. Might work toward a Simagic Alpha U setup for the pc rig and move the DD+ over and sell the T300 setup and the DD Pro setup.

🍌 Similar story - I played F1 games on NINTENDO in 1989 then Super Nintendo…then PS1, 2, 3, and 4 when I bought a G29 and TR8 rig at the start of Coronavirus. Then, this hobby infected me; I have a ASR6, Simagic Alpha, fully hydraulic/haptic P1000s, slip-angle 4 corner kit, 4 monitors, and most recently, Govee ambient lights over my 4th monitor. I believe simracing is the one witch is the closest to the real thing. As a pilot, I love flightsim, but it's still far from the real fisics regarding equipment and simulation itself (of course, it's more complex). I'm upgrading from a G29 to a DD and having lots of fun with virtual racing 😎.

I came from RC racing(nitro offroad) I started paying gran turismo and played most of the big racing games untill about 2005. Started looking into wheel setups in 2016ish when most wheels were still belt drive, got disheartened when i realized it was out of my budget, seeing the way other racers cursed out new racers and people that made mistakes made me not want to sim race. I quit racing RC cars so this freed up allot of budget. Eventually once the csl dd came out i could afford the basic bundle. I got it but quickly realized a desk would not cut it. I was still afraid to race online due to not wanting to be the guy to wreck another persons race. Eventually i got the bug and got my iracing subscription in 2022. Ill go quite a few months where i dont get to race due to work but if i get a week or two off i try to race at least once a day

Random question. Have you tried turning off linear mode for ffb? Supposedly it makes the dynamic range of ffb more realistic (lows are higher and peaks are lower) and it improves your ability to feel grip levels. Might be placebo but it actually feels pretty nice. Maybe worth doing a video on!

@ curious to see what you think!! I’m torn. I wish I could boost the lows (like with linear off) but keep peaks high (like with linear on). I wish we had more granular control over ffb. I’d love if peak grip levels were around 10-13nm but curb strikes and snap oversteer were the full 23nm
