Sweet deck. With your love of Boros I'm surprised we haven't seen more Boros wedge and shard decks: Mardu / Naya / Jesaki. Many more Boros & Bros synergies and styles to explore.
@CommanderReplay6 жыл бұрын
Yeah Ive played surprisingly little Mardu and Naya. I am currently working on a Jeskai sunforger list. I think part of it is that I'm not great at building 3 color decks...too many options, hard to focus in on the things I really want. My deck building has improved pretty dramatically over the past year, so I hope to visit Naya a bunch more in 2019.

Wonder where they got that Shadowborn Apostle Deck. :)
@CommanderReplay6 жыл бұрын
Where?!
@Bear77476 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the deck is from the command zone. But the deck sucks. All you need to do to shut the whole deck down is to kill one apostle before they tutor, or pay 3 life one time when they sacrifice them. The shadowborn apostles deck will then proceed to doing absolutely nothing while playing draw go and hoping to draw their next shadowborn apostle, for the next 3 or so turns.
@cabal.6 жыл бұрын
Apostles decks are very old, and the athreos version is the most used in edh i believe.
@CommanderReplay6 жыл бұрын
Ohhhh I see. There is probably a way to make them work, which is with a crap ton of card draw. But I don't usually see people running enough, so like you said kill 1 and the whole thing falls apart.
@emdub96796 жыл бұрын
This reminds me of the Tana/Bruse Tarl deck I mentioned, currently building it in paper.
@RavebirdRock6 жыл бұрын
The reason the list i gave you had so many pump spells instead of cards like parallel lives or equipment like swords was to take advantage of Tanas trample, and Sidars psuedo unblockable. Tana is really good with equips and stuff when you pair her with Ravos, but sidar lets you play a mind game of "what do they have". Your list would probably be better with ravos or bruse
@SuperKamiGuru56 жыл бұрын
Honestly his list and love of equipment in general would make Tana/Bruse a perfect combination for him.
@Lazarusgraves6 жыл бұрын
I had this very same idea in paper, except I had Bruse Tarl instead of Sidar to give Tana double strike for more tokens, and also I had it as an enchantress deck to pump up Tana, along with the enchantments that help tokens like intangible virtue, aura shards, and glare of subdual. It wasn't good so I scrapped it and made a regular enchantress with the Commander 2019 enchantment deck instead

I've always been interested in Tana in a naya shell but instead of using bruse or sidar, use akiri. Just a nice voltron shell which will protect both commanders and make tokens to fight against edict affects. Like a weird mix between rith and uril

Question for you guys, can you have a partner commander by itself, or do you need both to play?
@cloaking7646 жыл бұрын
You could just play one... There is just hardly ever a reason to only play one since you can usually find another commander with a similar or more focused effect in that color pairing
@CommanderReplay6 жыл бұрын
Yes you are allowed to do that, but as others point out there just so much benefit in having a second body and more colors to work with. Makes mana bases a bit harder, especially 4 color. But yes you could just use 1 partner if you wanted to.
@Menosh6 жыл бұрын
@@CommanderReplay If I'm not mistaken, some color pairings have multiple partners in it as well. If you wanted, you could just play partners with matching colors.
@jjcc83796 жыл бұрын
@@Menosh Yep, Boros partners are a thing for instance :) Moustachio man and Rope ninja
@hughjass54946 жыл бұрын
If you really want to play just one, it's still worth it to build the deck as you would have with just the one, then take the worst nonland card out of the 99, and choose literally any partner to sit in the zone anyway - even if the deck can't cast it - merely because a 98 card deck is (slightly) better than a 99 card deck. Or, put another way, 'Partner X' is strictly worse than 'Partner X + Partner Y'. I can't think of a single compelling reason to run just one partner.
@admanios6 жыл бұрын
I feel like you could have gotten more use out of Purphoros. This is the kind of deck that would thrive on his second ability, since Kondo effectively gives your small creatures unblockable, and you could probably have taken out any of the opponents with a few pumps. But I know that it's difficult sometimes to remember that Purphoros even HAS a second ability...

I run this deck in paper and just go all in on finding boots or some other hexproof effect, then pump spells for the win. I only ever ran it with some friends so not sure how it would do at the lgs but it's a good deck. Anyways, great video.
@CommanderReplay6 жыл бұрын
Yeah some hexproof would have helped out a ton in this one. It could be solid with some work. Maybe not the best deck ever, but very reasonable, especially if you can dodge the removal.

I have a Sidar/Tana deck that so far has done very well. If you're interested I can share it!
@@CommanderReplay Another user recommended having Bruse instead of Sidar and I would have to agree that you would probably like him more.
@hughjass54946 жыл бұрын
@@SuperKamiGuru5 Bruse is for being explosive, Sidar is for consistency; they serve vastly different functions. I prefer Sidar, but I leaned in to the small size of the creatures with my build (Ensnaring Bridge, Dusk//Dawn, Meekstone, Citywide Bust, etc). The "Voltrana" strat is probably way better with Bruse, but in that case, Ishai is a way better partner for Bruse than Tana is. That's why I took pains to avoid making a Tana voltron deck; It's an entirely different strat than tokens. Still running Huatli, Might of the Masses, Craterhoof, and (soon) Sublime Archangel, though. Some things just bring too much value.

Heya, I'm building a Tana deck at the moment as well but I'm using Ravos as the other partner - you still get access to white, but you add black and another anthem effect in the Command Zone is always good. You do lose the quasi-unblockable (flying or reach aren't that rare) from Sidar, but Ravos is pretty good for this sort of deck. What do you think?

it really needs a long time to be effective. So disappointing. If its 4 mana, its probably very solid. Or if they started making these Boros enchantments trigger at the beginning of combat, because you can easily get more combats. It is reasonable at making sure you have blockers, but it never really wins the game on its own. Its great a bunch of creature board wipes where everything gets slowed down.
@rorykitchen27276 жыл бұрын
People should play glacial chasm more, it's pretty insane.
@CommanderReplay6 жыл бұрын
Indeed, and they should also play insult injury to counter that glacial chasm. Its obviously best in a lands matters deck, but still in the later turns just laying it down for a turn or 2 until your ready to win can be really good. Works for gitrog pretty well.

Right now it looks like Jeskai is going to win the poll, so I'm gonna have to dig in and see what I come up with for that, but Id like to visit a Naya sunforger list at some point. I too would go the Samut route, just such a good Naya commander.
@CommanderReplay6 жыл бұрын
Oh also I wanted to make sure you were aware the somewhat recent rule change where the split cards are equal to their combined mana cost. So you wouldn't be able to sunforger the Response half of Response/Resurgence, and same would be true for prepare to fight.
@bigblue20756 жыл бұрын
@@CommanderReplay yeah, I knew about the ruling. Those split cards offer good options later in the game.
@CommanderReplay6 жыл бұрын
Cool just wanted to make sure. Yeah they do offer nice utility. Ive toyed with running Response Resurgence at times. But I realize its uncommon that I would need to kill an attacker blocker at 5 or less. The thing you probably need to kill is a seedborn muse which isn't going to get anywhere near combat. The first strike on resurgence is very interesting, as it becomes so much harder for opponents to block profitably.
