Boros is definitely my favorite color combination. I have two boros decks out of my six total decks. Anim pakal is a house. Have killed the whole table by turn 6 with agro before. Nelly Borca is my precon and actually probably my most winning deck. Weird boros control deck that just durdles and draws cards till you play a few damage doublers and just one shot people with your duble little guys.

Yeah both are great options. You're definitely in at the right time, cause 10 years the options were worse and it was much harder to play...as showcased by some cards in this video :)

Unrelated to the video but there is a card I'd like to bring to your attention. Aven interuppter from outlaws of thunder junction appears to me to be a counter spell in white in the same spirt as lapse of certainty, but with a nice flying body! Anyway thanks for the content. You are the best mtg content creator by far and this channel is highly underrated.

Oh shit that is a really good pick up for white. I hadnt seen that one. Being able to interact on the stack is so important against unfair decks.

Reprieve has vastly underperformed for me....so many times they just cast the spell again. I would rate Aven and Lapse of certainty as better cards, because they buy important amounts of time.

Hey super late but would Anya work in a mardu life swap style deck? I know this is as “commander” but in the 99?

In 2011 it probably would. By todays standards though, I am just not convinced that it is good enough. It would probably be OK if you get setup really well, but there are just so many pitfalls where it may do almost nothing. That said, give it a try and let me know if you find out anything interesting.

Anya should gain keywords as the number of opponents decreases. If you have two or fewer opponents it has double strike, ect

Funny how they did the same mistake as with Anya with Ixhel, who steals things via the mechanic that kills people and after they die you are forced to give things back. Anyway what boros commander is the most fun in your opinion? I have recency bias but I'm a fan of Taii Wakeen. She's so unique

Ixhel seems a least a bit easier to generate some value, but I see where you’re going. Oh man tough question, there’s so many good ones. I could still build a 1000 more variations of 6 Aurelia. 4 Aurelia is super flexible, and 5 Aurelia I’m still wanting to master but haven’t gotten there. But there’s cool value stuff to like osgir. Bruenor is great if you want people dead quickly. Tai wakeen is extremely cool also. Would love to get more a few more games with it.

My first commander was Gisella. Back in the innistrad days. My friends played krenko and nivvmizzet they hated her becaise her ability just turned them off. From that day they started to respect the boros

Haha I love that. I am surprised that we havent seen a white enchantment that is basically Gisela's protection half, i figured it would have happened by now. There werent a ton of Boros powerhouses back then, Aurelia, Gisela, Iroas, and Sunforger but they still did work if you knew what you were doing.

For Anya I'd change her text to "Anya, Merciless Angel gets +3/+3 for each player it has dealt combat damage to. If Anya, merciless Angel has dealt combat damage to a player it has Indestructible." (not sure if it needs to say "commander damage" to keep the effect across multiple castings) It still get worse as players lose but triggers much more reliably. And yea I changed opponent to player for the fun off chance that someone steals it and hits you with it.

Yeah thats definitely one way to do it. +1/+1 counters would be more sustainable. So much room to experiment with a new version of her.

YES! Anya (and Kalemne) is such trash and the abilities are nonsensical. The fact that 2 out of 3 commanders for Wade Into Battle were trash made me question my first EDH purchase (Aurelia and Iroas with some ramp fixed the deck thankfully) PJ, we gotta get an updated weapons of war and aurelia reanimator this coming year!

Anya requires an opponent to be half dead before she does anything and gets LESS powerful if an opponent is all dead. Kalemne requires you to CAST 5cmc+ creatures....in BOROS. At least Kalemne has some minor use in Otharri and Kelsien as a giant beat stick (Piggybacking off the counters that Othari and Kelsien make. Kalemne's trigger is still borderline useless.).

She was a lot better back in the days, where Double Strike commanders were a rarity. She was quite good if you built her with equipments - yes very unique, but you have to do what you have to do. Rafiq of the Many was the only other real contender and usually better for obvious reason. Shu Yun was a completely different playstyle, so I don't cout him for that. At least she's not a bad card in the 99.

Lol yeah, nonsensical does sum them up. I was playing a kid 1v1 at the shop once, and he had anya and at the helm, and gisela was in the deck...pretty sure she was in that precon. Anyway he lost badly game in 1, then i said hey try switching your commander to gisela since I knew all the faults with Anya and he demolished me game (I was playing aurelia.)

i feel like all of them just want you to do completely different things, then play equipments and smash face. like go (krenko) wide tokens for the first one. or tap/untap for the second one. or burn for the third one, so you have a good blocker. for the fourth, i take small auras, maybe even curses. and for odric, that's a combo flicker deck that uses the artefacts as etb burn or tap burn. its a given that they aren't necessary the best at those strategies, but i give them kredits for being something else :)

I wanted to make Tiana work SO bad, but she just doesnt give good enough value for the deck if shes piloting it. I will say tho, she's one of the best cards in the 99 in my Three Dog deck. My friends now know to INSTANT remove her before I get my card draw value lol

This is validating. I’ve had a few people tell me she’s not as bad as I think. Yeah like any of the 99 of her deck out performs. Noted yeah I can see it being useful in the 99, similar to the razia thing.

I used Razia. The deck was all about punishing people for attacking me. Stuffy doll type stuff with cards that make people attack.

Oh yeah I call those the boros reckoner style decks. I love her as a card and as character, but as a commander I found her a real rough ride.

I tried a lot with him, but it never panned out. PJ is right : peeking < rummaging < looting < scrying < drawing But hope your experience is different!

Lol yep. Double strike vigilance just screams put equipment on me. Have you tried making the experience counter version? I did a number of builds with it a few years ago and and looked at all of them said, they just look boring so i dont think i filmed any of them.

Agrus is bad. Really bad. Razia is cool, but also bad. Love her in my Prismatic Bridge Angel tribal list. Anya isn't what I'd call good. It's at least evasive for some cmdr dmg. Tiana... is interesting. I played her for a bit when she came out and it's not THAT bad if you just play her as a control deck and kill your opponents things with your auras. There are better option out now, but back when she came out it was way more justifiable to run her since you didn't had anything else. Odric... I hate that card as much as most other Odric fans, but I'm gonna play devils advocate and say he's 100% not the worst. He's cheap and blink-able, which is already more than the rest of the cards. The fact that he has an infinite combo with Krark-Clan Ironworks and Eldrazi Displacer that gives you infinite mana and lets you draw your whole deck is at least something. Obviously you can play ANYTHING ELSE that does the same, but better.

Yep thats why agrus is on the list :) ppaaaiinful. Devils avocado has been noted. I would counter with this, its one of those things that seems like it will work on paper, but is miserable to do in practice. You need at least 2 keywords in addition to those pieces, so at least 1 creature if not 2. That is a lot of cards that now need to stay in play, that opponents can reasonably see coming or interact with. But yeah odric blood cursed is a reeealll tough sell.

Sure if you want to go infinite there are many other ways to it. Playing Odric is like playing the ultra worst version of Breya. But the fact that you can go infinite with him is at least something you can do to win a game.
