I was hoping you would review this game...it is often scrutinized by grognards for it's card-driven mechanic, and the luck factor involved, but it does not repute itself as a battle re-inacted, but as a game that proposes challenges of battle situations in an accesable and fun way. I am glad this game can now wield the 'Marco badge of approval'. Thank you for the great review.

@marcowargamer Napoleon said "I have plenty of clever generals. Give me a lucky one." I think the card-driven mechanic is an effective way of modeling friction without resorting to variable movement and complicated activation schemes. I would also contend that it very much is a wargame as the modeling of friction is central to the game. A wargame without friction is just a game, in my opinion.

I haven`t played any block games, but this one looks really great. Any recommendations for a war game (ancient, medieval theme) for 4,5,6 players? We play a lot of Game of Thrones and Shogun. I`m also interested in getting two 2 players games: C&C Medieval and Battle of Sekigahara.

Great review. I am confused by the additions to the game which work with what and how many please discuss this in future.

Great job outlining the mechanics of play. I just got mine and finished stickering the Romans last night.

@winterplum: there are many awesome games that are not wargames, and this is one of them... but hardcore grognards at times can get confused :-)

Thanks for the great review, I played my first game of C&C:A this weekend and enjoyed it. I should have watched your video first, we totally forgot to play with bolstered morale and evasion!

@marcowargamer clever! One of the few games that should be more expensive second hand for that reason ;)

The just looks ugly and dated. Somebody needs to update it with miniatures.

+Todd sperling How big is a hexagon? if it fits a 40mm base I can use existing models....

+Todd sperling I recently purchased a copy and it really looks nice when set up on the table. Placing hundreds of stickers on blocks with tweezers was a bit tedious, but was worth it. Miniatures can be purchased for it and you will have to paint them if you want color on the board.
