Dawkins was right all along. His point was that if you believe something it doesn't make it true.

I love that he always says it! Just because you want something to be true, doesn't make it true. It was a bit of the old Dawkins in this "debate" but I wish he was more forceful. She seemed to be appealing to his cultural bias, but was going overboard. It sounded like pandering to be honest!

@@momo19991 Yes Dawkins always comes with the same point and why shouldn't he ? He is a Scientist and he suppprts truth. Ayan is ex atheist and has changed her mind about consciousness and and life after death.

@@blueline2241 She mentioned during the "debate" that she had struggled with terrible depression, and had then found christianity which cured her. Her story was not completely believable because she said a therapist told her that she was "spiritually bankrupt" as an atheist. I cannot imagine that a psychologist or psychiatrist in the United States would say such a thing about spirituality. Infact they never say anything about religion or spirituality and it would be considered medically unethical. That didn't ring true to me. I think the story about depression made Dawkins feel bad and then he had to be nice.

@@momo19991 yes she was telling her personal experience and Dawkins gave an answer to that it's all neurology and her personal experience doesn't make anything true.

I watched the full debate. It was ludicrous. Dawkins agreed he was cultural Christian but he would prefer to "join Christian missionaries over islamic ones" it was quite weird. What atheist had to do with choosing one missionaries over another. Ayyan vilified all pro Palestinian Protests calling them pro Hamas. Odd

The problem with Ayan Hirsi Ali is that she takes a lot of what is true, and then mixes it with right-wing distortions and fear mongering to get a wider audience. I feel she is not being authentic, but "weaving" a narrative to appeal to the Christian right who are already fearful of muslims. In doing this, she loses her authenticity and credibility.
