Charlie Thank you so much for all of your videos, its truly unbelievable how much you share in your videos. I have watched hours of your videos. And yes I have, by your detailed instructions, made several flutes. But as a wood worker and artist, I always try to make the next one better. My flutes sound good and I would like to learn how to tune them to be even better. I know nothing about music or notes, so it’s really hard for me to understand your tuning procedure. Your best tuning video was when you tuned one of your kit flutes.. So yes I had to order your book, to see if I can get better. Thank you for sharing with us your many years of knowledge with us.. I have watched other videos from other people, that spend a hour and a half showing there flutes and NOT sharing ANY DETAILS at all. Like length of flute, hole diameter nothing at all. THANK YOU SO MUCH

You are a wealth of information. Thank you so much for posting these videos. I am setting up my equipment to make my first wood one, and I have much more confidence that it may play after learning from you.

Thank you so much for everything you share. I just ordered your book after making 2 flutes with the help of your videos. They turned out well thanks to you (made from pine, G4# and D5#) but I think I can make the next ones even better. I'm in love with this instrument thanks to you (and Carlos Nakai).

Thanks for reading my curios question.. Tractor Supply.... has cold rolled square stock. Excellent is for your presentation as usual... what woods / material should you stay away from.

Luv your t-shirts! Question- I get light headed & lil dizzy when I play! What am I doing wrong?! Made a 3/4" pvc flute that made itself into key of A, never so shocked as to hear a note coming from a piece of plumbing! Still hoping to get your lil baby drone one day! Thanx

Possibly too much air (if the flute requires too much) or perhaps it's a matter of building up more stamina. If you have a physical ailment, be sure to keep your doctor in the loop. Sometimes the results may surprise you and the doctor as well! Best wishes and happy flute playing.

What about a chromatic flute? have a lot of playing holes and have the possibility to block off some holes to make it the scale you want. some small plugs or a sliding lid of some sort. would it work? if so could you make it play every scale or could it just have maybe two or three to switch between?

I should have mentioned earlier, you can play chromatically on a 5-hole flute as well as a 6 hole and 4 hole flute. This certainly cuts out the need for multiple additional holes.

At 12:30 "528 is 4 Hz sharper than 440". I think you misspoke, since 528 - 440 = 88 Hz Anyway, thanks for fueling this latest tangent of mine. 4 weeks into and I have a bunch of jigs, tools and several cane flutes that actually play in a minor pentatonic. I also have a box of incorrectly made flutes and whistles that remind me what not to do. I always try to get the 'wrong ways' done first so I can focus on the 'right ways'. THanks for THinking!

You're partially right, I didn't actually miss speak I wasn't using precission of speech. What I meant to say was 528 Hertz as a tuning method is 4 Hertz sharper than the tuning method of 440. This is because 528 Hertz refers to where the note C is located and 440 refers to where the Note A is located. When C is located at 528 Hertz, A is actually 444. :)

@@BlueBearFlutes - Ahhh...Now I understand. I'm a burned out software engineer, so I tend to pay too much attention to details. The humidity and heat in central Florida is enough to make these flutes drift a bit, so I'm not at all concerned about 4 Hz. Again, Charlie, many, many thanks for your videos and inspiration. And thank your wife as well for her efforts in all. Later! Mr. Brown
