I remember the post office used them with the perkins diesel engine.

White van near the end would have been used to move large glass windows so they had a frame to be secured to

Remember the van downunder in New Zealand 🇳🇿 Very popular, maybe a little soft in the underpinnings at the front. Didn't realize it became owned by the Dodge ( Chrysler Group ). Thanks for the presentation.

As a kid , I owned loads of Corgi toys , Dinky, Matchbox etc versions of these vans (and the Walk-Thru) ,but this is the first time I heard it called Space Van ! They are cool looking and I used to have a model of that thing at 21:27 😊

Yes I think I had a Dinky version with a guy sat on the roof with a big TV camera

@@quarterlight I've seen that one , I'm now jealous lol .. no, the one I had was just plain as pictured but in a maroon colour. I seem to recall these actually being used as milk floats in rural areas where electric floats were impractical .

We had a 1972 Luton Body Commer like the one at 22.04, the ride was super nice due to having coil springs on the front but the wind resistance meant that it struggled to get above 40mph despite having a sweet 1725 engine. I recall the wipers came down from the edge of the roof canopy and with drum brakes on the front it was surprisingly keen to stop in an emergency, perhaps they were oversized due to being luton bodied. The body was all aluminium riveted and the roof was opaque fibreglass resin so let lost of light in, the rear doors were roller shutter type. It had the later dash and a Harry Moss eight track stereo which sounded quite good back in the day because the speakers were mounted at head height. It looked kind of cool with huge Pluto, Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck transfers on the front top and a red 7 foot plastic aerial which just about cleared the top of the body.

I have a 1972 Autosleeper. Great fun but you need to 'drive' it not just point, steer and stop. Also plan your braking and overtaking other than a bicycle is not advised! Would love a brochure as a go-with. Thanks for the video.

One of the ugliest vehicles on the road, especially a pickup. The later ones badged Dodge Spacevan were a common sight up to the late 1980s as yellow British Telecom vans. You hardly see a Commer van today except for the occasional camper van. I saw an early pink and white caravan in good condition in Aberystwyth last year.

Will have to agree to disagree on that one - I think it’s really cute interesting design.
