Will new coolant and a replacement fan switch sort out the Allegro’s temperature readings?

You can also test the switch by heating it up and using a multi meter to check continuity.

Might have been a discussion on the forums, but in mine the fan doesn’t turn on until it’sreally nudging red! And I see you also have the AC instruments, I thought that’s how they are. Cheers from Sweden, Paul

@@paullundgren6319 could be your temperature sensor is reading higher than the car actually is
@paullundgren631929 күн бұрын
Yes, it could be. But I’ve heard from others who behave the same way. So it might just be how they are. If you wait until it’s on its way into red, does the fan kick in then?

@ mine kicks just above 3/4 so not quite as high

As I temp fix, you could run two wires from the fan switch wiring inside the cabin to a manual switch.

@@Roverturbo I am thinking about that but the switch is doing its job now 🙂

Try a back flush on the heating matrix for the heating issue.
@johnmoruzzi723617 күн бұрын
I agree...or replace the heater matrix if a proper flush doesn't work. The cooling system has been neglected and the traditional antifreeze only lasts for 2-3 years anyway. There was a recent video on LR Time where a Discovery 3 had to have its whole dashboard and console dismantled to change a heater matrix because the "far" end of the matrix (away from the pipes) became blocked and that half of the cabin would not get warm. There is at least one post '74 heater matrix available now on Ebay for a fair price...

Your Allegro seems a lively driver still. Hopefully you can return the fan switch for a refund.

@@williambell7096 thank you! Fortunately the switch is working now 🙂

Merry Christmas, Great work with the videos , I have a 1978 1500 E Series Austin Allegro in New Zealand the cooling system is similar so your videos are very helpful.
