@KenWelsh77 we use a barbless hook which has a slight curve in it where the barb should be. When the fish go back the hook usually slips out because the tension is released.

TheTunaMaster, what length of blank rods are being used on those albie sizes?
@flamedrag1813 жыл бұрын
@ogdemigod they're just poles with lines tied to the ends and a feather lure for bait. when they get in a frenzy, even a simple hook will get them.

@1wai2mana Traditional ones are usually just long pieces of bamboo. Look around your neighborhood!

They are kinda like a lure and are really thick and strong as not to bend. They are not that sharp either and have no barb so the fish basically drop off. You have to keep the line tight and swing the fish into the boat in one steady motion or it will drop off.

Awesome. Can't believe you guys aren't wearing safety glasses though!

Nice to see sustainable fishing methods. Would not trade places with those guys for anything, geez, flying hooks everywhere! For those who don't know: albacore are NOT bluefin, their population is quite stable hence the large sportfishing bag limit.

really hard work, it looks amazing... really tough guys.....

pole fishing tuna is very sustainable.... purse seine netting tuna is not ..... great video guys... I too fish commercially for Tuna here in Australia & own & run a Charter vessel Its going well over here now on Southern Bluefin Tuna.
@chadnystrom69810 жыл бұрын
its not a hook per se....its just a siwash style that is bent out and has a feather/rubber attached to it... sometimes it takes 4 poles that go to one hook when they get in the schools of heavies.....

@woofa2012 жыл бұрын
Do the fish just go for a hook? Like is there no lure or anything? They just like the look of a shiny hook? Haha.
@rensleyelizabeth633012 жыл бұрын

Hello Dear we can fishing Tuna like it in The Mediterranean Sea (Libya)?
@KenWelsh7714 жыл бұрын
I have one question ... How the hell do the fish come off so easily ?? Squid fishing is very similar on the East Coast of Canada. They just grap on with their arms ... but the fish dont have arms ! lol

Save the Bluefin tuna from imminent extinction! Save all marine life! We cannot blame anyone but ourselves the consumers. Eat less seafood or only Buy seafood with a MCS label. We are overexploiting our ocean's precious resources.Fish stocks all around the world are declining. sign the petition for marine reserves on the greenpeace website! Everyone can change the world ,including YOU! Thumbs up to keep this at the top

@janos099 You have no idea what you are talking about.. Several trawl boats convert to Albacore for summer seasons and either Jig or pole fish... There is nothing fake whatsoever in this video.. Have you ever worked on the ocean? The Camera moves with the boat that is why the rail isn't moving all over.

@Bigfishfun3333 ай бұрын
Yes, it's real - what you see is what you get. Barbed hook, not too curved - that way they fling off after tension is released. They chum with minnows.
