This is a commercial carpet installation I've done for a friend's business. The area getting the new floor installed in this video is a separate hallway in the back of the building that leads into the soon-to-be employee breakroom/kitchen and restroom. The Future kitchen area will get vinyl wood flooring installed by me here in the next week or so that will meet up with the carpet tile.
We are planning on doing carpet tile throughout the entire 1,800 sqft. building with different carpet tiles from the ones I've installed in this video.
- Not all of the steps or prep work are shown in this video. A heavy amount of footage was edited out to shorten the length of this video to make it watchable.
- This is not a how-to or a guide. It's solely meant for entertainment purposes only.

There’s maybe 3 main ways to cut tiles in scribing, like you ended up doing. Wall cutting which is the quickest but not always the best and under cutting which I often use for cutting internal corner tiles. Sometimes a variety of cutting techniques is required depending on the thickness of the tile or how far under a wall or cabinet the tile may have to go.

True. There are multiple ways. I just went with the one I felt I would be most comfortable with for this project.

Great work. I do this for a living. If you had of moved your centre line two inches to the right then you would’ve avoided the skinny fills and nobody would’ve noticed especially with those 24 inch tiles.

Thanks! By the time I realized that, I was already too far into it to turn back.

Great work! I just did my first with thicker/stronger tiles I guess: just a scratch in the back, fold it and it snaps like glass. Another easy cut in the fabric and your done. The guy in the store told me not to use glue for residential sized rooms and the tiles are not moving a bit. I also couldn't do the checkers pattern with my tiles, all same direction and it almost looks like normal carpet. Easy beginners trick: make templates of funny corners/doors/pipes on an old newspaper(and some tape if you even struggle to get the paper to fit 😁)

Thanks! The template thing is a good idea.

For someone the clearly is not a floorlayer that was not a bad effort 👍 1 tip for next time as rule of thumb you wanna measure off your longest wall flick a line and come off that, that way you know it’s bang straight especially with checker board fashion and mark so you got even cuts down the hallway. Again not bad at all

Thanks for the compliment! I'll use your advice during the next flooring project I do in the future. This one was a major step in learning for me when I had done it.

What about the 75 pound roller? Don't you use it? I have seen it is recommended to make a good bond...I don't see anyone using the roller in these DIY videos.

Although it's recommended to use a roller, I never did because the carpet tiles remained firm in place when I was laying them and were kind of difficult to pull up when I made a mistake, showing me there was a strong bond. If the carpet tiles you are laying come up with little to no effort, then a roller is definitely needed.

I don't consider myself one, but have been told by others I know that I am. I love doing this type of work as a side hobby, but it's hard work.
