I just learned that tone mapping can help me save highlights, I learned that my highlight preservation node should go first (even though it is the 4th step), I learned that I can use a parallel mixer to combine my exposure/contrast and saturation nodes instead of having them one after another, and I learned about the face refinement node. Thank you!

I'm new to videography, I have a question. If my footages are non log (sony a6000), do I need to apply cst or do I ignore the cst node? Also, what is actually the significant of cst if you care to explain? Btw great breakdown video, I found it's a bit overwhelming to watch others tutorials as they have so many steps in grading but yours are the most easiest to follow and understand.
@DannyGan Жыл бұрын
The CST is just to transform log footage to a display color space (rec.709). If you're not shooting in a log profile, chances are you're already in rec.709 so yeah, you can ignore the CST step. Hope this helps!
@HaruNatsuuuu Жыл бұрын
@@DannyGan Thanks for clarifying! Do you have any tips for non log footage to compensate for lower dynamic range? If chances I'm already in rec.709, do the result will be equivalent to a log footage that starts with cst on the first left node? Or do I unintentionally sacrificed some data already by shooting non log?

Hi, great tutorial. Since you only have CST out. May I know what did you do with the color management under project setting? Is it Color Science: DavinciYRGB, Timeline Color Space: Davinci Wide Gamut, Output Color Space: Gamma 2.4 ? I'm confused because usually there's an CST in & CST out.

Hey, I have an idea for another video if you haven't already done it. Use your sony fx3 to record something in log, then record the same thing with a lower level camera that has a log profile and compare the results. For example, I don't have any professional equipment but if I bought an fx3/a7sIII tomorrow, my two cameras would be a dji pocket 2 and an fx3. I'd love to see the difference when graded professionally.
@DannyGan2 жыл бұрын
Sounds intriguing, but I guess I'll do it with the gear I have on hand. FX3 vs Mavic Mini 2 vs GoPro Hero 10 vs Samsung S22+ haha
@o.f.ftrack34442 жыл бұрын
@@DannyGan I have a Mavic Air 2, Pocket 2 an older handheld sony camcorder and my phone. I think the fx3 is more expensive than my entire bag of equipment lol. I'm looking forward to it though, it should put things into perspective for a lot of people.
@DannyGan2 жыл бұрын
Yeah mate, create with what you got 👍🏻 the FX3 is overkill for most people, but if you're serious about the craft, I think its a good tiny cinema camera

Great tutorial & good job on the grade ✨ Why did you put the color transform at the end of the node tree? Special reason? Would love to know!

the short answer is so that we make adjustments on the raw-est form, instead of stretching the footage then only making adjustments

Nice Job overall! Feel like the image is a bit too blue though in the whites (e.g. as seen in the scope at 6:23 ). Usually you put a bit more blue into neutral whites, but this might be too much since it's effecting skin tones. Haven't seen the vectorscope, but I am assuming they are a bit off.

Great video Danny 1 question, can I ask why you didn't put the nodes in the same order you used them in? E.g. from Left to Right, or vice versa
@DannyGan2 жыл бұрын
The short explaination is we want to work in the 'raw' colour space before we apply the Color Space Transform (CST) which stretches the contrast and saturation. That way we can better preserve the contrast and saturation before it goes through the CST.
@DannyGan2 жыл бұрын
If we put the CST first, then we'll be working on the stretched contrast and saturation. Which will be less effective to preserve the data.
