Just want to let you know that you can do the same functions in your HSL look nodes with the color slice tool instead. The color slice saturation slider applies saturation in a way that doesn't increase luminance which is the same as what you're doing with your HSL workflow. It will save you the time of disabling channel 1 & 3 every time.

Hey George. I revisited this video to get densed colour in saturation and I did exactly what you did here - inside compound node, hsv and hsl. The colour density turned out great but it also created somewhat weird artifacts to my footage. What did I do wrong and how to solve it please?
@george.colorist24 күн бұрын
Go easy with these adjustments-it's easy to introduce artifacts, especially when using the Lift and Gamma wheels. Unless you're working with high-quality footage, avoid adding HSV or HSL saturation with the Lift wheel. The Gamma wheel is generally fine, but keep an eye on the shadows. The Gain wheel is the most flexible, so if you're noticing artifacts, try sticking to that one.

Is the video in rec709 at the beginning? What if I have a slog video do I convert it first then used the way you color grade?
@george.colorist5 ай бұрын
This workflow was in a Resolve Color Managed timeline. Resolve converts for you so you just apply the same workflow you see in this tutorial. If you're using regular DaVinci YRGB (not color managed) for your color science, use a CST to convert your log footage and keep the CST at the end of the node tree so all the adjustments are before the CST node.

The HDR panel is color space sensitive so it refers to the timeline color space to calculate adjustments. For example, if your footage is S-Log3 and your timeline color space setting is set to Rec.709 or something else that's not SLog3, adjustments done in the HDR color wheels will behave like that. You can set the Color Space and Gamma in the HDR panel settings (3 dots on the top right of the panel).
