In this video Jim Gibson describes and shows how to set finish. Remember there are three phases to a cabling job the first phase is "pre-cable" where you pull the cable through the walls through the ceilings. The second phase is "set finish" that's where you punch down the jacks and put on the faceplates. Set-finish is always done after painting. Jim, watching your videos about cabling like this brings me back in time. I remember a time running CAT3 before keystone jacks were even a thing. There was also the runs of RG58 and BNC connectors. My cabling days were almost 30 years ago, but as you said, it was fun doing that type of work. I now work only with the machines those cables plug in to, but at times, that gets boring. Where I work now, I was watching the contractor run cables for a new lab, and I wanted to join in and help. Thanks for posting videos so people know what is involved with this type of work.

In “theory” you must separate high and low voltage a lot FURTHER than THAT!! Thus is no metal conduit right? So then, I would do a minimal of 4 inches in between. Yes, this will of course work, but please place an oscilloscope, an EMF gauge and an Ethernet packet sniffer so you can SEE the noise and retransmissions. Nah, it’s OK! But the difference between 970 Mbits/sec or 800....

Should not be punching down on carpet like that. Too soft with too much rebound. There is a good chance the cable wont seat properly in the IDC. You can see how he's having to twist off the cables a lot from the IDC's after he punched down. that's a good indicator that the punch down tool isnt seating the cable properly. A dull blade could be contributing to that as well. When I punch down, 98 percent of the time i don't have to twist off a half cut cable like that. Put something solid underneath the keystone, like or book or something. He's also hurrying way too fast through it. Remember it's just a little tiny wire seating into an IDC, more delicate of a process to do properly than you think. It may work now, but the cable could work itself loose from the IDC over time.

I agree with you he should be using a "jack puck". A jack puck is a little plastic device that attaches to a RJ jack and makes it easier to punch down cable. We sell them on our website (Part Number 101736). My installation company, Nova Voice and Data Systems Inc, guarantees our work for 15 years. We also test every single RJ jack that we install. In thirty years we have never had one "go back" to repair a jack that we installed. Thorough testing is the key!! Thanks for watching our videos. Please subscribe it helps our channel!

Yes you are correct, The sticky back is only meant to hold the surface mount box in place until you can screw it to the wall with dry wall screws or self tapping metal screws

Nice work, there. But, seen a couple of patches along the run of the cables on the data cables, you could tell by the electric tape around. Is it possible to extend a data cable by piecing it with another piece of cable? What I mean is that, ¿won’t that degrade the signal? Thanks.

No cuts in the cable. Yes it would degrade the signal.

A I it’s another cable for the closer cubicles taped on so they all pull down as a group. since they are different lengths they tape down lower on the longer ones. If you still care I know you comment was five months ago haha.
