Excellent Video you guys! I am still curious though since I don't fall into the "run of the mill" I do catering so my average grinder needs are only for 2-3 hours a day but I am busting out anywhere from 30-60 drinks/hr or up to 200+ drinks for 2+ hours. Would I fall in the mazzer mini doser version or would I have to step up to the Major's? Please help, I need a good grinder!

Just doing research for my wife. It seems to me a per hour would be much more accurate. Decades ago I used to manage a fast food restaurant and that's how we broke down sales for scheduling and so forth.

I work at a coffeeshop where we serve around 500 drinks a day (from 7 am to 7pm), and we use a k30 (6-7 seconds for a double) and a small macap as secundary grinder (10 seconds for a double shot yeah thank you).So yeah. We do. It's crazy. It really forces you to run, as you are losing SO MUCH TIME on the grinder. Not only that, but I noticed some really big differences in the dose of coffee coming out between the first shot of the day and the last, probably because of the heat accumulation or coffee deposit between the burrs? Does that make any sense? Anyway, just to say it's possible to use 65mm burrs for VERY high volume, but your employees will probably hate you and die of heart attack and exhaustion after 6 months.

Wow! Impressive that your shop is making it work with the set up you have! Kudos to your staff for kicking butt! This sounds like a situation where you definitely see the impact of having flat burrs vs. conical burrs.

The only thing helping us is that the portafilter holder of the k30 holds the portafilter in place, so we can just place it then do something else while it's grinding, but we clearly are dreaming of a big conical grinder :)

Noise? My baristas are autistic 20 something's are real laid back, it's an air stream in my back alley--siftee-serve ice cream and cappuccinos, so I want to fill my powder hopper full, for say 20 cups at a time. Static us a real problem, but constant grind should've twice a day or so sell 20 cups over our 4 hour open. How do I find one that doesn't shut off after 1 minute?

We currently do not carry the grinder. If we do start carrying it and have access to a machine we certainly will. Sorry! - Steven

Wow, we come a long way, the biggest flat burrs by then were 83 mm and nowadays are 120 mm, 45% more.

I think if you grinder can pull consistent grinds and lets say in 2 minutes you can grind an entire 2.5 lbs coffee beans you are good! (home office use (7 ppl)) not coffee shop. I am going with the large one :).

Me too Adam--must have quality but the repetitive is dreaded, and the Noise is a real issue--I cannot selfishly do this to my whole house at 5am. I need to grind enough to last the day, the home burr-grinders turn off after 1minute, a teaspoon of powder and are so heated, they cannot be used 3 clicks in a row or they flip my breaker.

There are a few. One of the best bang for the buck conical burr grinder is the Baratza Encore. - Steven

I have a baratza sette 270w. Weighs coffee as it grinds so there's little to no wasted coffee, grinds a double shot in like 5 seconds and retains virtually no coffee so you don't need to purge old grinds. One con of this grinder is that the outer burr isn't user serviceable as the burr is integrated into the gearbox, and it's also quite noisey.
