Yes, ban those internal courts. And prosecute the elders that have covered up the abuse, especially those that have destroyed files. Im looking forward to the next update on this. Cus we know the GB wont cooperate on this again.

This is very positive action by the Dutch minister and the others involved. I think on the matter of destroying documentation, it's important to be clear about this. The direction to elders is not to destroy official JW forms relating to child abuse accusations/ judicial actions. The correct JW procedure is outlined in the latest letter to elders concerning safeguarding: 'Filing: Information concerning individuals associated with the congregation and accused of child sexual abuse (established or not), including letters of introduction, should be placed in an envelope labeled with the individual’s name and marked “Do Not Destroy.” This envelope should be kept in the congregation’s confidential file. This would include Notification of Disfellowshipping or Disassociation (S-77) forms on individuals who have committed child sexual abuse, even if later reinstated.' (Letter from 'Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses' to 'All bodies of Elders', September 1, 2017: 'Re: Protecting Minors From Abuse'; available at: avoidjw.org/en/publications/letters-2017/) Elders are, however, required to destroy any personal notes taken in 'judicial hearings' or 'scriptural investigations'. Policies can change, of course. If put under pressure, will the JW HQ in the Netherlands destroy its files; will it get local elders to do the same? It is a difficult balancing act for the parliamentary minister and others involved. They must take action, but they must also at least attempt to persuade JW HQ in Netherlands to cooperate. JW files are not the only evidence. of course. Survivors of child sexual abuse are finding their voices. Let us hope the Dutch authorities enable those voices to speak out fully.

I don't think they understand that victims report to elders rather than police because as JWs they are absolutely expected to with any unallowed sexual matter. They would never think of bypassing them and going to the police first. Then there are too many instances of elders, once involved, prohibiting police involvement and punishing actual decent elders who have reported child sexual abuse. Its hard to understand the enclosed JW culture of secrecy if you've been brought up in normal society.

They say that it is a criminal offence to destroy evidence. That's all well and good, but only those inside the Organisation have seen this evidence. How will anyone outside the Organisation know if evidence has been destroyed if they have not previously seen it?

Unfortunately the evidence has already been destroyed. They follow the bible to the word including keeping these matters confidential. They sent out a letter to all the halls to destroy the records, it was leaked online.
