Good video. I just want to add that people are still making games for the C64 to this day. :)

The 'Joy P' button tip is pure gold. That almost drove me crazy. Thank you so much. 😊🎉🎉🎉😊

Great video. The C64 was my first computer and where I taught myself basic coding (I eventually wrote a Dungeons and Dragons character generator and finished a strategy game and started work on an rpg before I moved on into the Amiga era) and spent a LOT of time gaming. The Ultima series (especially 3 and 4) were amazing.

A lot of the c64 games that use tape and disk have been converted to the .crt file extension and have removed the load wait. By far the best launchbox/c64 setup is c64 dreams.

Great video. I'd watch you play all the C64 staples, you seem to know your stuff and are pleasant to listen to

My first computer was the commodore plus4, because the c64 was too expensive. First game I ever played was a tape with Matrix and Laser Zone on it. Loved that Jeff Minter Games! Then Ghost town. But 1 or 2 years later I got a C4 for birthday 😃

This is awesome info, history and examples. Is there a way in Launchbox / Retro Arch to map common keys such as the space bar and run/stop to game pad buttons? I know in the Atari ST Libretro core on some retro pi distributions, the space bar is mapped to button 2 and it REALLY helps. I have no idea how they set it up, but it would be great for C64 for have space, and run.stop mapped, and for the Atari 8bit computers space, Start, Select, and Option. For Amiga, the same as the ST - Space at the very least. Do you know of a way to accomplish his with the Launchbox / Retroarch combo?

With Retroarch on Launchbox I can't launch games on Easyflash, the screen remains black. Do you know how I can solve it? I saw that in the video you have no problems.

I have a c64 game called Rags to Riches, but it uses the arrow keys. It's it possible to use a joystick instead of the keyboard? I have only gotten it to work once a month time ago. I even bought a Bluetooth keyboard. But I'm still learning Retroarc. But, I want to be ready when I finally get it to work.

I was hoping you would comment on saving a game when the game requires you to create a special 1541 disk that is formatted to have say 10 save spots.

You don't want to do this. Modern simulators will save the entire state of the machine at any point, with any program. You don't want to use the original save state features on the original disk. This is, clunky to say the least, and despite having the computer when I was a kid, I NEVER did it and I had 150 video games. It was unreliable and it was clunky because hardware was so expensive, than you had to use your disk drive with several floppy disks. A disk would be entirely dedicated to doing safe states for one game and 99% of the floppy would be unused.
