In my experience, you have team up pretty early against a superfriends deck. Feels bad for them but nearly every Walker they play has an ult that can just outright win the game if the player just has decent control cards…which is exactly what happened

Im still trying to understand why they didnt attack the PWs. I have a Sisay deck and its almost impossible to ult in my Tables. If Im not able to put the amount of counters needed in the same turn I put them into play, they will die

At around 6:20, you untapped the stack when you cast the bird. If you look closely, Gwynn cares about POWER 5 or greater, not mana value. You would only put the entire mutate stack into the command zone if it was placed there with a Leadership Vacuum. You could have safely put Otrimi to the command zone.

An interesting interaction with mutate is a destroy effect board wipe, and while its on the stack casting undying malice or a similar effect. The creatures will return seperated but then you have a full board to mutate onto.

Agreed on the fight cards for Otrimi. Toxic Deluge would be a good board wipe since your mutate stack will likely be one of the biggest creatures on the board. Alternatively you could run a bounce board wipe like Evacuation or Aetherize which would let you redo your mutate stack - Raise the Palisades would be the best one since you can either name a creature type in your mutate stack for a one sided board wipe, or you could name something random to bounce everything.

It couldn't be random. Mutate stacks only have the subtypes of the top creature, not the whole stack.

That Ajani is easy to overlook because it's very much all about the ultimate and does very little until it gets there, but it's not surprising that it won the game all by itself once it did ultimate.

Gargos, Vicious Watcher is great in mutate if you want any fight effects, since he triggers whenever you target a creature to mutate it!

Hey andrew, have you considered testing the deck with the other sultai mutate dudethat you can cast from grave? I think always having access to a mutate creature might do the deck some good, it cheats command tax most of the time and you can still run all the same cards in your deck.

Broccoli (Brokkos) not being anything other than a 6/6 Trample for 5 as a mutate from the graveyard makes it difficult as a commander. It might work, because Otrimi isn't really being used for its ability from the Command Zone in this deck, but the 5 mana value cost on Broccoli (even avoiding commander tax) feels pretty substantial.

I tried and gave up on Otrimi, the mutate list transitions over well to Tatsunari, add a bunch of enchantments. I have never looked back, I get to go wide with mutates on my Keimi’s or build deep mutate stacks depending on the board state

Hey if you want a new mutate commender I recommend Niv Mizzet, Supreme! 5C, Hexproof from monocolor, and gives you direction on what to commit the non-mutate slots to.

For mutate you don't need wipes but like 4x spot removal and 2/3 phasing spells.

I thought if you shuffled the mutate stack in, you could then move your commander into zone after the others were getting put in the library. Mutate is weird though, so I’m unsure if they would just sit in your command zone or not but that doesn’t seem right.

Yeah, the only effect that forces all the creatures in the stack into the command zone is Leadership Vacuum. Otherwise, the commander card can go the command zone when the rest goes to whatever other zone

I believe this is also the first time i see Otrimi do the mutate that many times and i can't stop shaking the feeling that Otrimi is more of a weird voltron commander than anything else. So it really need things that care about Voltron stuff. That's a shame, because the commander is cool but bizarre sometimes.

As someone who has a Scorpion god deck, I always like watching Hapatra in action as the alternate -1/-1 counter commander. I prefer scorpion gods benefit of card draw via -1/-1 counter deaths rather than Hapatra’s token generation aspect. There’s a lot of other cards I use to generate the tokens to then kill with -1/-1 counters to draw cards and other death triggers in the aristocrat archetype

Back in the good ole days, commanders could only go back to the command zone if they died or were exiled. If there was a spell that put them into your library (on top, bottom, shuffled in, etc.), it happened and you couldn't choose to return them to the command zone instead. God I miss tuck rule

He could have safely put Otrimi into the command zone while shuffling everything else. The only time you are forced (or, indeed, even able to) to put the whole stack into the command zone is if the stack is bounced there via Leadership Vacuum or, possibly, by the end step trigger of a Hellkite Courser if you mutate something onto it after it was placed onto the battlefield by said Hellkite.

Mutate is one of these mechanics I really like but it still lacks support. I have seen te precon in action plenty of times in my pods, and it has only won once.

Any Breya CEDH deck doesn’t even bother casting Breya unless it’s with infinite mana. Also, having two OP commanders like Tivit AND Urza on the battlefield with all those resources and still not winning the game means it’s not really a CEDH level deck

Not actually how it works. He could have placed Otrimi into the command zone safely while shuffling the rest. Only time he can place the rest of the stack into the command zone is if he is forced to, such as with Leadership Vacuum
