The white stuff is thermal paste VERY IMPORTANT .It’s dried out ,probably the cause of the problem in the first place?

I don't think it was thermal paste. That is used in CPU's to transfer heat to the heat sink. Why would you want to transfer heat from the engine to the DFI module?

@@chetniksrb333 Install instructions? And what does Delphi have to do with this? Honestly though can you send me a link to these instructions and where I can buy thermal grease for a car?

@20flstfi01 @chetniksrb333 A few other people have mentioned this so just wanted to say thanks and apologies for doubting you. I honestly thought you guys were trying to prank me. Will sort this out in an upcoming video. I do get things wrong sometimes but I'm happy to admit when that happens. This was honestly the first time I'd seen any mention of thermal paste or the fact that that big metal plate on the side of the engine is a heat sink lol.

Hi. (not a bad video). I am wondering, with all these DFI modules people are replacing, which apparently solves their ignition issues. How many are related to things like contaminated rubber seals where the coil packs connect. Or even the seal that sits in the connector face. Or even have overheated due to any thermal paste losing its ability to suck heat from the DFI to the heat sink (effectively). Would have been good to have someone give measurements (resistances) of a failed DFi pinouts. Would also have been good if you did a spark test after, to see how a brand new DFI unit sparks in comparison to the old one?

Hmm....thermal paste you say. A few other people have mentioned that too. Maybe I should be putting some of that on lol. Will be working on the ute soon so will be sure to sort that out. I hear what you're saying about checking the strength of the spark, didn't really consider it because it seemed like it would spark or not spark rather than an issue with the strength of the spark, but it very well could have been that. Regardless of all that, thanks for the feedback, it is always appreciated.

I HAVE EXACTLY THE SAME CAR, YESTERDAY IT JUST WOULDNT START AGAIN AFTER DRIVING AROUND. IT CRANKS BUT WONT START. ANY IDEAS. NO SPARK.
@BorkenGarage Жыл бұрын
I'm no expert mate but I know these engines have issues with the crankshaft position sensor and no spark is a symptom of that. I had a VT years ago that would drive fine and then not restart. You wait a while and then it will start. Found out afterwards they do this when the CPS is on the way out.

Very good, but the DFI module needs thermal paste between it & that corroded mount it was sitting on which is actually a heat sink to draw the heat out of the module. It's Just like the heat sink used on a CPU in a PC, it must have thermal paste for it to work correctly. Otherwise they wear out prematurely. That is why most of these DFI modules fail on the commodore because that thermal paste gets old deteriorates & stops working due to the under hood heat & the modules overheat and cook. It should not have been designed to be placed over the extremely hot radiator hose that sits underneath it to begin with. Also if that radiator hose weeps even just a tiny amount of fluid (which a lot of them do) it turns to steam which rises & is not good for the DFI module sitting directly above it. Make sure the hose is good & the clamp is tight. My father in law went through 4 DFI Modules in 4 years in his VY V6 acclaim because his mechanic just kept bolting the new ones down without thermal paste. Every one of them lasted just 11 months. But then a decent mechanic fitted one with thermal paste and it hasn't failed again since.

Yeah thanks, a few people have mentioned about the thermal paste. I didn't know about it at the time but will sort it out. I thought people were having a laugh at first but obviously not lol.
