I am from South Africa and just made friends with someone from Malawi and I wanna surprise him by talking to him in his language since we use English to communicate

I get why there are different forms of tje questions... there's a plural form used for talking to a group (and used for older people/adults) and a singlular version (pretty much would only be used if you're talking to one child) .... but I'm a little less clear on why there are 2 respinses... what exactly is the difference between Tili bwino and Ndili bwino? Do Tili anf Ndili both mean I am?

@@Josh-zt8dw Thanks for your encouraging comment, We love that kind of feedback 😊. To answer your question, Tilibwino is for the plural question and it means one person responding on behalf of the group ( We are fine) or and its the same responce an adult greeted with respect can give. So like you rightly put it its for both plural and older people.Ndilibwino is answering for yourself. Interestingly, even an older person greeted with respect sometimes gives the same responce if they dont really care about respect. Note: Ti and Ndi are the pointers to identity plural and singular Chichewa words
