I find your videos very interesting in all subjects. Been fishing over 50 yrs and your knowledge is very true. My favorite jig was a Stanley 5/16oz in black/brown/orange although I changed with conditions. You need confidence in what you throw!

Randy, at the 1:00 mark you talked about how some lakes and times of the year aren't set up for jig fishing. Can you please explain what you mean by that, and what are ideal conditions to jig fish?
@kylesnowdon84984 жыл бұрын
Great video Randy! I thoroughly enjoyed you how you explained and presented your experience with jig fishing. Going to experiment more with jig colors as I’m guilty for falling into the black and blue and green pumpkin only category. Looking forward to you expanding more on jigs in particular, and other bait specific videos!

I have always had confidence and caught lots of spots in culprit fire and Ice ribbon tailed 7.5 inch worms on mainly Coosa River Spotted bass in the pre and post spawn . I pour my jigs and hand tie My skirts. I decided, based on this video to tie up a skirt on a few finesse jigs. 3/4 tab of bright red living rubber and 3/4 blue sapphire rubber with shiny thin tinsel. It is a situational color in my Opinion. It worked great in stained water. In fact I have started using the same skirt on football head jigs and spinner baits. I’ve even caught some LM’s on the jig. It’s not natural but spots kill it! I am going up to pickwick in March or April and I am going to try it out on smallmouth!

I stick with natural colors on all my jigs but my top producer is flat brown with a green pumpkin trailer and some spike-it. Enjoy the videos!!

Jig fishing is my favorite technique and has been for over 30 years . Of course 30 years ago there just wasn't much talk between jig fisherman about various trailers or colors and it was limited at best . Now days you can load down a warehouse with variety of colors and styles of trailers but still my favorite way to fish .

I learned most of what know about jig fishing came from Denny Brauer, Ron Sheffield, and Randy. I think Randy had a BASS win on pork; maybe it was Ron. I'm telling my age. That was over 30 years ago!
@jameserickson13304 жыл бұрын
I hope people take your braided line comments to heart. Braid has minimal sensitivity on a slack line compared to fluroro, and in my experience, I get a lot more and better quality bites letting my jig fall on totally slack line.
@donaldmartin49803 жыл бұрын
There used to be (30-40 years ago) a color that changed from brown to purple depending on the light. I used that color in California on my jigs a lot. I lost track of the number of really good bass and even striped bass that absolutely clobbered that color…… I can’t find it anymore.
@tablerockkid82374 жыл бұрын
You're making me get out of my comfort zone. 😊 Maybe time to ditch the braid, lighten up on jig weights, and bring a little color into things. Thanks so much for sharing.

@johngalt35684 жыл бұрын
Nobody makes them anymore. Some of us have a stash from 15-20 years ago. They eventually go bad once you open them. I dread the day all of mine are gone. I think they are best in late fall through early spring. In winter, I won’t throw a jig without pork.

why I don't switch off a preferred lure, worm, jig, there are only so many hours in a day. Like I said there are only so many hours in a day. LOL

It's hard to not use braided line with a jig or anything for that matter when using spinning gear. For some, that's all we have. The best we can do is braid with a fluoro leader. Fluorocarbon and soinning gear just don't get along! LOL
