I leave this growing in my chicken’s run. They seem to enjoy scratching at it!

*it's NOT A WEED!* when the leaves are still light green and about the size of a fifty cent piece and not mature, it makes for nice salad. where do you think marshmallow came from ? yep, the Malva Dandelions another misunderstood plant, great to eat as salad when leaves are not mature. you can make a pain salve, you can use the flowers for tea. it's also an indicator that your lawn is suffering from *calcium* deficiency. you want to get rid of dandelion without the work, calcium weather you buy from store, or pulverize egg shells into powder. *urine* yes urine, one cup of urine to a gallon provides nitrogen good thing you didn't mention *purslane* i'll be throwing hands make a purslane salad add chopped tomato's, little onion to give it a little kick, a little jalapeño to grow hair on your chest, drizzle with olive oil. hard boil egg *Mmmm* 😋i make a sort of hot stew and add diced pork chops, i throw the bones in it too. heck you know i'll never go hungry *edit: pain salve* a salve for pain

You are correct that marshmallows were originally made from the Mallow plant, from the roots to be specific. But I'm pretty sure the species used was Althaea officinalis, not Malva neglecta. I'm sure you could make marshmallows from this plant, in fact I've heard of people trying, but I'm not sure if it was quite the same. I've not done it myself. You are also correct about Dandelions and Purslane. In fact, in my Purslane video I talk about how it's edible and very healthy - full of omega 3s & 6s! I love it in a good salad or stir-fry. But as far as if something is a weed or not, Malva neglecta is not native to the US, it spreads where it doesn't belong and can outcompete other plants, which is what I mentioned at the beginning of this video. "Weed" is in the eye of the beholder/gardener, unless it's on the noxious weed list, then there is no room debate. But this one isn't noxious, so you can totally let it grow if you like! I usually don't worry about these in my lawn because they mow nicely and stay green. But now that I'm not mowing nearly as often they are getting a bit too tall, so I'm taking them out.
