This week, the team gets together to talk all those misconceptions about the AFSPECWAR career fields. Do Controllers kick in doors 24/7? Do al PJs know how to hackeysack? Are PJs and Controllers attaching to other teams? Is Trent the only SR guy in the Air Force, and what do they do? And, as always, what came first- the great hair or the PJ? These topics and more, all this week in the Team Room!!!!
Chapter Markers-

00:09:57 Pararescue
00:36:32 Combat Control

The adaptive mentality, of not staying in just one spot and kind of really doing whatever you can and pushing yourself to learn really speaks volumes that these career fields are more than meets the eye. One thing that I keep looking for is an overview of some of the missions each SPECWAR branched is involved in. Maybe they don't talk about missions because some of them are classified, but it seems like they would be able to talk about some of them if they redact names of places and people. It comes up with Brian basically saying, "People think that PJs only do this, but actually that's not true, we do a whole range of different things." Trent says the same thing about SR. But I want to know what is this range of missions, what sorts of missions are they actually getting sent on? I find it difficult to judge which branch I want to join without hearing more detail about what ops they actually perform.

That's the thing about SOF, not only can they not talk about everything they do, but it's also not always consistent or defined. Yes, there's specialties within SOF, but everyone's main mission is to perform special operations, however that needs to get done. JSOC may utilize a variety of operators across branches to perform a mission that they may not be specialised in.

First, really appreciate the work you guys do to help out noobs like me who ask the same questions over and over. Second: dumb question alert: you guys said that 18Ds are more focused on field medicine than PJs (who - if I understand it right - are more focused on extracting personnel from dangerous situations than administering field medicine). Is that a general statement with exceptions, or is that the rule? Meaning, can I go the PJ route, and train field medicine with the 18Ds so that I can be as trained as they are in that regard?
@harryhog1977

Usually a general statement. Some J's are more focused on high angle, while others dive deeper into medicine or some other focus. Usually dudes find a niche that really appeals to them and they just naturally gravitate towards it.

Bruh, from what I can tell it's basically like TACP shit where they don't really do much lmao. You can never get any information other than Trent being incredibly vague about it. If you caught one of the interviews they did with a TACP, dude literally said when he was deployed he was babysitting a dog the majority of the time. Sounds like a blast 🙄 If you're going for any of the SW pipelines within the Air Force, I'd go for CCT or PJ. Or look at going into Army 75th Battalion Rangers, Special Forces, or MARSOC w/ the Marines.

@@OnesReady Are you saying that the mission set is getting narrowed down?
@OnesReady
@OnesReady Жыл бұрын
Well- the requests are going down. We aren’t fighting a 3-theater DTAC conflict; so, if the number of teams going out that need our support are slowing down? Then the requests for our support are also going down. The enabler mission is sexy- but it’s only there because each service had an operational need for our capability and couldn’t make it happen on their own. So, less Ops + slower tempo = decrease in need for enablers. Hope that makes sense. - A
@dinomra7771

@@OnesReady So does that mean SR will be harder to get into because of that? Because I remember looking at Marine Force Recon and hearing that they where very limited on how many people they would take in.
@OnesReady
@OnesReady Жыл бұрын
Why would that matter at all? SR doesn’t do enabler mission set now… so a decrease in requests for PJs/Controllers to the joint force wouldn’t affect SR either way. The AF needs SR to work on ST teams and solve AF problems for the joint force- the same can be said for controllers and PJs as well- the enabler mission set is not something ST is looking at putting a lot of weight behind.
