I like the quote “Knipex came out with these a few years ago..” lol yeah. 29 years ago.

Knipex also has a gallery of sizes where Icon only has one (at least that I've seen).

I have every size pliers wrench that Knipex makes and multiples for my favorite sizes. They are truly outstanding tools. Sometimes having the real thing is worth it.

I think the icon is a close match and I’m glad they came out with a plyers wrench. Little competitions good

I need harbor freight to copy the 4 and 5 in versions of this and the water pump wrench....those for 19 dollars or less would sell out consistently like that mini ratchet kit

Great tools, I have almost all the sizes from knipex, even the smallest xs one. Very satisfied over the years. That icon branded one is just a clone. Even if the patents expired they could come out with something different, like the Klein one with the reversible jaws.

Depends on where you bought it I warrantied my knipex needle nose pliers at Menards, where I bought them Knipex is slightly smoother function but the Icon are nice

NWS is made in Germany, cheaper than Knipex. Make everything Knipex does. Fyi

The difference is in the tensile strength of the steel that the two different brands are made of. Something to think about. I prefer tools that don't fail especially when I live 30 miles away from the nearest HF location. I used to use their tools for cheap emergency kits for our vehicles that might get used once every 2-3 years. The yard sales and estate sales and auctions I participate in have allowed me to upgrade those emergency kits to US stuff. No question there's a market for cheap tools with a lifetime warranty, but when one fails and you're on the side of a highway fixing your vehicle or at a remote cabin plumbing emergency where internet service is scarce, the usefulness of that lifetime warranty for HF stuff quickly evaporates. The price point difference for these two tools is certainly not enough for me to save $20. If it were a $50 difference, well that's another story. The other thing to consider is with the way things are going in the world these days, China could just quit making this stuff and exporting to the US and where are we gonna be then?? Pawn shops don't stock everything we need in the way of tools.....lol

To be clear, I agree the Knipex is the superior tool, but there are a lot of people that think the $20 difference is significant.

For the record I own Knipex and I also bought a ICON to try. The ICON are made in Taiwan, NOT CHINA! Big difference. That said, your metallurgy point might have validity over 50 years of daily use. But most people aren’t using these daily. Taiwanese make tools that are in some cases better than the good old US of A. Japan is the best (KOKEN). They simply have pride which we lazy Americans have lost. Sad truth

Knipex does make excellent tools ... but like most German brands: getting their stuff replaced under warranty is a royal pain in the neck !!!

Got no problem with HF using the mechanism now that the patents have expired. I do have a problem with them blatantly ripping off the artistic design of the product itself to the point the average person wouldn't realise they were a copy at first glance The Knipex retail prices are high, but if you shop around they're not that much more expensive than the ripoff Icon pliers; just buy the genuine product
@kg4gav Жыл бұрын
No different than the adjustable wrench and pliers he showed in the beginning. Both are a copy of the original design. Just a copy, like almost every tool out there.
@scod3908 Жыл бұрын
@@kg4gav I've got a few adjustables. They all have different shaped and different coloured grips with their branding on them to differentiate them (plus they're not exact copies of each other anyway) All the other brands now making plier wrenches are easily distinguished. There's no excuse; just because something is legal doesn't make it ethical

Knipex only has two syllables Nip and X. Not being snarky, but proper pronunciation does add credibility to a you tube presentation.
@commonsensediy Жыл бұрын
I understand there are several ways to pronounce it, but you might want to watch this video. This is from the company's website and it includes the K sound: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKKQaHmQo8aLn5Y

LOL imagine talking about “credibility” when the company themselves have stated the pronunciation.
