I have Bahco adjustables from 6” to 18”, and several of the wide opening pairs. Since I bought the Knipex 125mm, 180mm and 300mm the Bahco stuff has been retired. Yes the Bahco can be adjusted with one hand, but once the Knipex is adjusted it doesn’t slip, that’s a game changer in a tight spot for me…………….
@StainlessSteve88 ай бұрын
As a newbie line mechanic at a manufacturing plant, the knipex pliers wrench performs so many functions. I do a lot of machine changeovers and the 180 pliers wrench keeps me from having a pocket full of tools to just 3 or 4. The old school adjustable has its time and place as do all things in this world.
@UpstateMaveric8 ай бұрын
good input... i find myself grabbing the knipex for a lot of things that i couldn't even think of another tool to do the job, its clamping power is a really under appreciated aspect of it. - thanks for commenting!

Why choose? Why not have both? Sometimes you need two wrenches for tightening or loosening. There might be cases where one is a bit more suitable for the task that the other. So, one of each is good. I know that there are times when the Knipex is nicer, as you can essentially ratchet it. The Bahco will keep its adjustment much better than the old style adjustables, which was my main gripe about the adjustables that I used in the past.
@DangerousDaveyBoy5 ай бұрын
They both have their place. I have many Knipex pliers and pliers wrenches. I have the Bahco adjustable wrench. I love all of them. One of the coolest things about an adjustable wrench though, is being able to bend thick gauge steel. The leverage you get is awesome.
@UpstateMaveric5 ай бұрын
1000% agree, the “pinch” ability is incredible
@Wildschwien Жыл бұрын
The best thing for any fastener is to use the correct size of tool. Any style of adjustable wrench can easily damage the nut or bolt. With the Knipex you have no play between the jaws. With the Bahco style, you will.
@LawAbidingCitizen117 Жыл бұрын
Even with the closest tolerance fixed wrench like those from Snap-on, there's still some play between the jaws and the bolt. With pliers wrench like the Knipex, there's zero play because the bolt is gripped tightly.
@bill4123 Жыл бұрын
That bahco wrench is amazing. It feels great in the hand. I primarily use it for chrome plated espresso machines because the handle is compact, because the jaws open super wide, the thin jaws get into tight places, and being an adjustable wrench is great for when I wrap the chrome fasteners in electrical tape before servicing. I genuinely look forward to jobs requiring that wrench because it feels so nice.
@scod3908 Жыл бұрын
The knipex pliers wrench is excellent for plated fasteners. The clamping ensures the fastener is gripped more evenly to spread the load on the fastener. This becomes apparent when you put masking tape on the jaws of both types; "hot spots" will be apparent on the old style adjustable wrench where pressure is focussed on the jaws The new knipex products also support clip on plastic soft jaws

I bought my dad a 250mm knipex pliers wrench and even though he is very impressed with it and likes is very much, every time there is a pluming job, the first thing he picks is the adjustable wrench, he says it's just faster and easier to work with. He still caries the knipex, but most of the time it's used for specific tasks where its clamping force is needed. Thanks for the great comparison and insight. Keep up the great work!

I agree with the price point about the knipex. Every time I think about buying them I talk myself out of it. I use a smooth jaw style channel lock from Milwaukee 10 in but the 8in baco seems to be more compact for tight places. Love the videos keep them coming.

They are complementary. Totally agree with what you are saying about practical use for speed and comfort: normal wrench > adjustable wrench > pliers wrench. And yes, for the 'normal' use on bolts, adjustable wrenches are more straightforward and easy to use than pliers wrenches. However, the pliers wrenches are definitely indispensable, especially for some kinds of 'special' situations. Say, again, as you mentioned, if you need to hold something while working on it, or, sometimes, you need to squeeze things, and the pliers wrench may serve better than anything else, etc. And, personally, if being asked if I could have only one tool I would choose the pliers wrench for its multirole functionality :)

I haven't tried to buy call yet but I am damned impressed with every pair of Knipex pliers I've picked up. Well over $1,000 which isn't saying too much as several of them are $100+things like the locking CV clamp pliers, they're S-Type swedish pipe wrench. This one however has been evading me even though I bought and it seven times and I've been turned down each and every time I've tried to buy I've been shut down. A 86 43 250US. Or as most of the US would know this is a 10in with a 15 degree offset handle pliers wrench. Very similar to the offset on box-end wrenches.

I am a technician for a tire factory. I love the knipex wrench pliers and beats marring up bolts with my cobras, however the only downside is tight spots as you have to be able to squeeze. Thats the only time I'd rather have an adjustable wrench or preferably an actual wrench, but I'd rather not carry a set on me all the time. Had to the antenna tower next to my house to adjust my dish and came to the realization that I need another pair of them for home, being up there and fiddling with an adjustable wrench is annoying when you can just set the pliers to the right size, and go to town.

Weight is my biggest consideration. I just checked amazon and the 8" bahcos are 3oz heavier than the 180s. Think i'll stick to the pliers. Though those are really nice. Saw that they also have a 6" slim jaw. Might pick those up if theyre comparable in weight to channellock.

That wide mouth tool is a specialty item. It would be useful for plumbing in tight fittings such as installing sinks in cabinets and I may buy one just for that. The jaw is too large for general use, it will be hard to fit into some locations so it can't replace a similar length standard adjustable wrench. I have a Knipex Cobra but I have not tried the Knipex pliers wrench so I can't say if I would like it better than a conventional adjustable wrench.
@UpstateMaveric8 ай бұрын
I can definitely see your point on this one... my main use case is HVAC, so plumbing fittings that are large but fairly low torque, which is probably why it shines so bright for me
@everbeenzen3 ай бұрын
I think the pliers wrench is good for plumbing fittings and electrical compression/rain tight fittings. They however are not good for bolts if you are trying to really tighten it down the action for some reason does not engage and still requires you to squeeze (like with traditional channel lock type pliers) and you end up rounding the bolt if trying to tighten it hard.

Great video , I been using the bahco 8 and 6 for the last 5 years as a plumber and everyone around me mainly uses the bacho too but I have started seeing more and more people on site work transition to the knipex pliers. Currently I’m researching on the knipex 300 and that’s how I came across your video. What I love most about bahco is that if you need some heavy persuasion to get the job done you can give the item a good hard hit whereas the knipex 150 I have , I’m nervous to use for rough handling. But I do think the bacho will always be the staple adjustable. On a last note it is interesting how many people around the world pronounce knipex differently here in England we say it like this nip-ex

I think KZbin has sky rocketed the popularity of the pliers wrench, people see it and see how useful it can be and since other people are buying it, its kinda like a herd mentality, but at least in this case its a good tool and it works well. - also yes I agree! Question / Video challenge what about a Strap Wrench or Chain Wrench compared to Knipex and adjustable wrenches? Would these work to loosen an old chrom washroom sink drain pipe with ease? (Think 🤔 of how your mechanic uses a strap wrench to remove the oil filter on your car.) 1. "TuffMan Tools Oil Filter Wrench Set - 2pcs, Use as Jar Opener, Pipe Wrench, Rubber Strap Wrenches Used by Mechanics, Plumbers" 2. I'm very glad I stumbled upon your video. I recently acquired the Icon 10'' plier wrench from this weekend's sale (Snagged it for $35 ish after tax). I was troublshooting my washing machine followed by doing a bathroom remodel (I'm actually waiting for the drywall to cure now lol) and felt that the 10'' were a bit too long, the handles kept getting snagged against inlet hoses and tight spaces behind the toilet / under the sink. I have the 8'' Doyle Water pump pliers (Cobra knock offs from HF) and thought how nice it would be to have something about that size in my tool pouch and for these tasks I mentioned above. Unfortunately, Harborfreight/ Icon/ Doyle does not have a plier wrench in that size, so I looked into the 8'' Widemouth Bahco Adjustable wrench Vs. Knipex 7'' (180mm).

I have never tried the Knipex pliers wrench. They look clunky and cumbersome. I don't like squeezing on pliers handles to perform an opened wrench function. Adjustable wrenches are widely available and less costly, so I haven't embraced the Knipex pliers wrench. I purchased the Bacho adjustable wrench when it was first introduced in my area about 20 years ago. I thought it would be ideal for low torque, but large nut applications. I was thinking that it would work well on plumbing fixtures like Sloan flush valves and not cause Channel Lock teeth damage. A standard opening adjustable or combination wrench was vastly oversized for that application. I purchased the Bacho 8". I don't like it. The jaws are uncomfortably too narrow and Bacho reverses the adjustment thread from every other manufacturer, so I was constantly adjusting the jaw opening the wrong direction. To obtain the wide jaw opening, the Bacho frame is too wide for confined work space on small fasteners. I eventually dedicated my Bacho to a single use bench tool application. I have gone back to standard adjustable wrench designs, though I do like the Klein wider opening versions and I have a Matco that is wider opening than most. I stayed away from the Snap-On Bacho upgraded versions for the reasons already described, but I did like the high polished chrome finish. Snap-On has gone back to the more conventional style adjustable wrench design. I am an enormous fan of Knipex. I especially like the Alligator version. I have some Cobras, but they are too finiky for me to easily adjust. I believe that I am in the minority on that opinion. I appreciate that Knipex satisfies both types of users. I have tried my Knipex pliers for traditional pipe wrench applications. I don't care what Knipex advertises, I still prefer Ridgid pipe wrenches for pipe work.

Great video and great arguments raised, especially the point about the pliers wrench being a two handed tool when adjusting it. The familiarity and muscle memory most of us have with an adjustable wrench would be an obstacle with the Knipex, especially if you use it regularly. Do you really think some guy on YT offering his opinion based off a really tiny amount of experience can inform the masses truly as to which wrench is 'best'??. How bout we just start with a discussion on the differences and individual capabilities of each type.

I have quite a few Bahco manufactured tools in my tool kit bur nothing by Knipex as I don't think this brand is available down here in New Zealand. Bahco designers are really smart, compared to the majority of the manufacturers. Knipex looks like they follow the same principles Kiwi Rod

@@UpstateMaveric North Island look up Kumu hot rod show & the Beach hop, the hop would be the must ,we get a few Americans come down & some bring their cars. Hobbit's ville ( which I haven't been to) you need to book. Rotorua is a thermal area. Tauranga Jazz & Blues festival is at Easter. Many of N.Z.s young musicians have their competition & adults have their bands their allso. If you're into bush walking then go down the South Island BUT YOU NEED TO BOOK FOR THEM There is really good trout fishing in both of the main islands, you have to get buy a license for fresh water fishing but not for salt. Bacho more or less perfected the design for the adjustable wrench in the late 1800s. I suspect that Crescent copied it and reversed the screw, and that became the american version. Good for nut and bolts when you cannot bring fixed spanners. The last Bacho adjustable wrenches made in Sweden 30-40 years ago probably have the best quality. Newer made in Spain or Argentina are usable but not as good. Bacho invented the Swedish pipe wrench that is very good for holding round objects, such as pipes. I use Knipex channellocks primarily for holding plastic fittings. But I have actually not tested the Knipex pliers shown here, too expensive. Although I suspect that you cannot hold nuts as strongly as the adjustable wrench.

to each their own man, if your only using pliers wrenches to turn bolts you haven't lived yet.

I feel the times I actually grab for these is to use them as a mini vice, they’ve got some serious clamping pressure on the right type of object!

Nah, I work assembling fitting in a workshop eight hours a day and the Knipex pliers save my A$$. I use a combo of double open ended wrenches and Knipex pliers, if I had to use an adjustable wrench my speed would go way down. The ability to quickly turn down a nut with Knipex pliers just can't be replicated with an adjustable wrench. There's only one instance I use an adjustable wrench. I use it for a specific fitting where due to orientation, I require a vertical grip for counter torque. Then I DO use an adjustable, but only on the side that's not going to be moving.

I appreciate the squeeze given by Knipex wrench. This is a good tool. I have always been uncomfortable with adjustable wrenches, because they have never given me enough grip. They self changed the size and slipped off nuts. But I have always used cheap 'chinesium'. I would like to try Bahco on my own. Send me one, please. 🙂

My advice would be if you can’t work out how to use the Knipex pliers get a pro in because the chances are you have no idea what you’re doing and will screw up. Never lend anything expensive anything to anyone who has no idea 😂

So I haven't seen a video (in english) testing the KNIPEX 98 07 250 Spanner out. I don't think 99% of people even know it exists. So maybe that makes it worthy of a review? haha ridiculous pricing though... I think it's an import only tool.

I have actually seen that! I’m guessing it’s so pricey due to the 1000v rating! Maybe I can get my hands on one!

I'll take the crescent any day. The pliers wrench are interesting and fun to use sometimes but they do not compare to the crescent.
