Bethany , thank you for that ! How pastel painting keeps on changing ! Forty years ago I was in Madrid watching live pastel portraitists work and all they used was pastel, paper, pencils (or carbon) and a fixative. I guess these days all mediums are seeing 'useful tools ' to further enhance the final result....

Thanks for sharing your tools. 👍Watercolor is my first painting love, but I’m working on learning pastel painting currently. I see your link for watercolor is to Holbein. They’re certainly great, (and I’m planning on building my Holbein wc set,) but price-wise, on the higher end. I have found that even Schmincke, Sennelier, Daniel Smith and a whole host of other premium artist grade brands (they have their student grades too) offer more competitive pricing than Holbein and the quality level is equal to Holbein. So it’s always worth checking some other brands.
