"The only bad sketch that you can make with Urban Sketching is a sketch without a story" Love this Teoh! It's very humbling and inspiring to see the artists I look up to still commit the same mistakes I do from time to time! I personally am still working on my proportions too aside from perspective

I'm SO gutted!!! I can't believe I didn't know you came to Auckland... You were in my country... It would have been so wonderful to meet you! The tips on perspective were wonderfully useful, also! My perspective always needs help lol

I also like to use a light blue watercolor pencil to lay down some starts, stops, and perspective lines. Drawn very lightly to minimize affecting my painting. I also use a super cheap dollar store children's pencil that doesn't have much pigment and is rather hard, so the lines are minimal.

I use a similar coloured pencil. I had a blue, hard pencil that does not deposit much colour on the paper. It is very good for a first sketch. It gets erased easily by the water, so there is no trace of it at the end. If I still need the lines after my first wash then either draw them again or start with a wash and then draw over it. Very useful tool to have.

@awatercolourist yes, exactly! In some of my landscapes, I like to do the blue lines for the big shapes and then use my pen to ink in a lighter brown for some of the foreground. The blue lines melt away on the first wash, and then I still have some guidelines to keep things in perspective and sized appropriately.

This is very helpful. I can tell I've learned quite a lot, because what you're saying is making sense to me, where before it used to be that after a few minutes I would have been lost. I can't really DO this yet, but I can follow the conversation, so hooray!! Thanks for making this video. 😁

Thanks for lots of good tips, including the dull face colour, which I did the other day.

water color pencils are excellent tools for urban and nature scenes. They allow color to flow, just like life

Beautiful sketch. Not easy to do perspective. Do you have any videos on vanishing points? I guess you studied art, your drawing is so good.
